52 Case VAC running rough

After about an hour of bush hogging today with my old Case VAC,the motor started to miss a little,lost a bit of power. Drove back to barn and cut the motor off and observed fuel streaming out of the marvel carb. Cut the fuel off and removed the air filter,restarted with similar rough running, choked the card with my hand and the motor smoothed out. Started running rough again after cycling the hand troddle. comments?

Fuel streaming out of the carb., to me would either be the float is stuck, or sunk, due to a pinhole. Or..., with other problems, enough gunk holding the needle valve open, to not let it seat, and shut the fuel off.

The rough running may be a piece of dirt/rust stuck in the main jet. Holding your hand over the intake to choke, lets it pull enough fuel through to run OK.

Just sounds like crud in the fuel. Start back at the tank, and have a look inside for rust/dirt. Check sediment bowl for sediment. Check screen above sediment bowl. Either pull the plug in the botom of the carb, or carefully remove the bowl, and check for dirt, and clean. Probably best to just pull the carb., and just clean it all.

i agree with dj54.

might be a heavy flaoat, stuck/hung up.. etc.. sticky needle.. etc... .. go for a good cleaning.. do check the tank and tap.. etc.
