5303 Clutch Replace

Hi,

I have a 5303 that is at the end of it's free play adjustment at about 900 hours. I do a lot of loader work with hay and I'm sure my foot spends too much time on the clutch.

It appears there is a new replacement clutch with 6 clutch pads instead of 4. Does anyone on know much about this or have any tips on replacing the clutch?

Do I need to get the flywheel turned? What other parts might I need when replacing the clutch.

I've never split a tractor before, so any advice would be appreciated.

Well here is my thoughts. I split a small tractor years ago. The bigger the tractor, the harder and more hazardous it is going to be. It is quite a job and you definitely want to be pretty handy and mechanically inclined if your going to attempt it
If it were me I would replace the clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. As for the fly wheel, it depends on what it looks like. Would not hurt to turn it while your in there. Your will definitely want a service manual for this project, an owner manual won't cut it. You will probably want to take pictures with your cell phone as you tear it down. If you have any question of how it goes back together, you will have both the service manual and the pictures in your phone to help you figure it out.

Years ago I replaced the clutch in a 5300. Didn't have access to a service manual at the time. I replaced the whole assembly which turned into a fiasco because the tractor ended up needing a "European" clutch assembly...the splines were different to the North American one we ordered. I don't know if the parts manual was wrong or the tractor truly was European. I doubt you'll run into that with yours but it is the main thing I remember about the project.
