55 gallon drum for diesel?

I would consider a stainless steel 55 Gallon drums. New they are pricey, almost 1K. I have seen reconditioned ones for about $250. If you stick with plastic absolutely use a containment.

A containment will catch a leak not a tip over. Hopefully stainless would never leak. Class 8 trucks use stainless saddle bag tanks and I have never seen one leak through.

If you don't run the the pickup all the way to the bottom, then you need to have another way to get the water and debris out. It's a bad idea to leave that stuff sitting in the bottom because the drum will rust out from the inside.

Don't skip the filter.

Plastic 55 gal drums take a looooooong time to "rust out"

Ok, lets put it like this...
I have 41 years of experience in the trucking industry and have seen exactly 3 trucks equipped with stainless steel tanks. 99.999% of trucks are equipped with aluminum tanks to reduce the weight of the older steel tanks. Some people polish the aluminum to a high mirror shine, but very few are going with stainless because it adds to the weight and doesn't help most trucks. The second link you posted is to stainless steel fairings, not tanks.
I have a 150 gallon aluminum tank that came off a truck, might be a good idea to put it to use as a supply tank, but I have a fuel station 1/2 mile up the road, and if stuff ever hits the fan, my truck has twin 100 gallon tanks that I park in the driveway.

But when they do this it's time to take notice. I just got these in January. I was pulling up to fill my tractor and saw this split. The fuel level at the time was just below the split. I pumped the remaining fuel into the other drum.

I was thinking of just buying a containment pallet and a new drum but I am shopping for an aluminum tank now. I just found a manufacturer of DOT rated aluminum tanks a couple counties over so I am calling tomorrow to see if they will sell direct to me.

Right now using 5 gal plastic jugs for diesel
just pick up a jug stick snout in tank push jug
forward so opens jug to pour and let it set there
on hood but it takes 5 minutes to empty!! Will
be using an 55 gal oil drum for diesel fuel next
also have a 55 gal tank in pickup bed.

We have a Mack we got 8 years ago. Been sitting three years when we got it. Full of fuel both road tanks. Still runs fine on the same fuel.

You can't put the drum high and gravity flow it? We keep a 500 gallon tank and fill a ever 2-3 months. Our gas is 4' high and in a drum. Only lawn mowers and four wheelers use gas around here.
