5740 headlight problem

The headlight fuse keeps blowing on my L5740. I'll take a closer look at it when I get the time but I was wondering if there are anybody else has had any issues with this? They were working fine and when they were switch from high beam to low beam the fuse blew and when I replaced the fuse that one blew also. I have a strange feeling it may be the switch itself.

I'd start by isolating the wires from that system to see if they might be nicked from assembly. You should disconnect as much as you can and see if the fuse blows. You do have a choice of involving the dealer as it should be a warrantee issue.

The tractor is under warrantee I have only had it about a month. My dealer is about 300 miles away but I gave he a call and he said the same as you. I wiggled the wires but didn't see anything strange. I put a new fuse in and the light are working fine again. My guess is that it will happen again so I guess I'll have to wait till the fuse blows again.

I have a 5740, but have not experienced any issues with the lighting. Only about 15 hours on it so far.

I did get the service manuals, which have a pretty complete set of schematics. Let me know if you need any information.

I found the problem after smoke starting coming from under the dash and under the hood. It turns out the the horn wire was grounding out on the battery hold down threaded rods. The wire is melted, my dealer is looking into replacing the entire wiring harness. The tractor is up and running so I'll have to do without a horn until my dealer takes care of it. I took a look at my 5030 and the same wire is also very close to the battery hold down so I sliped a piece of rubber hose over the rod so I don't have the problem.
