That would make solar producers partners of a sort because the peak demand here is hot afternoons which corresponds to solar output…

There's a local guy who drives a jacked up HD dually pickup with mud tires, about the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Anyone who's driven an unloaded truck with dual rears knows they're about the worst thing on earth in mud or snow, they just float. Of course, that one is so pristine clean that you know it's never even seen mud.

If a contractor pulls up in a tricked out pick-up, I won't hire him.

I figure if a guy who owns a business is so adolescent with his money to frivolously spend money on stupid, non-profitable items for himself. How does he look at my hard-earned money?

Ok, you placed the bet, I call, show your hand. How is there any doubt today's automobiles are not more efficient than in 1966 when there was no smog control?

1966 VW Beetle might get 30 MPG! My 2016 Subaru Outback's 26,338 mile average (26,338 miles divided by 908 gallons purchased, you can't average averages) is 29.06 MPG after a 550 mile 24 MPG hit driven by a lead foot brake/accelerator friend. My Subaru is a much nicer and larger vehicle than the Beetle.

2016 Outback is 24.69 MPG at 2016 Subaru Outback MPG - Actual MPG from 561 2016 Subaru Outback owners

Outback is PZEV emissions rated.

Had a friend from Germany in the late 70's, and he was looking for a newish used car.. "I said, why not a Beetle?" He looked at me like I was stupid. "Those get terrible gas mileage." Then I looked it up, and yes, they do get terrible gas mileage for what they are..... well used ones were typically, 17 miles per gallon.

...well used ones were typically, 17 miles per gallon.

Lots of widely disparate numbers being thrown around for the same vehicle, although I suppose a "newish" Beetle in the late 1970's would be one carrying some of the mid-1970's emissions controls, whereas the 1966 would likely not.

More importantly, if you're going to throw out numbers against one another, and claim they came from research, you'd do well by the rest of us to post your sources. Grumpy did post a source for his most recent number.

20-22 MPG - Adjust valves every 4,000 miles.

I drove the thing for over 200,000 miles.

People today want more options and horsepower on there weekly lawn mower than the 1966 VW Had.

Perfectly logical. Fuel is merely horsepower, stored in liquid form. Energy = power integrated over time.
