5th gen Dodges, when are they coming out?

Love my 2016 Ram 2500.

That a beautiful truck, looks just like my 2015. would you look and maybe take a picture of where your front park sensor wiring harness plugs in? my does not have the sensors but I am hoping the harness is there.

Isn't this similar to what happened with Ford and their power-stroke diesel engines back in the 90's? At that time, they had a very good engine, but then due to some issues with Cummins, they went out and created a new engine that was horrible. It's taken them almost two decades to come back and offer a quality diesel engine.

Case Construction equipment used to have Cummins engines. My dozer has the Cummins 6CT 830 engine that only Case can sell parts to. If you go to a parts store like Napa, they ask for the serial number and then tell me that they can't find any parts for it. Fortunately, Case is cheaper then Napa for parts. I thought that the Cummins engine was a good reason to go with Case. But once again, issues with Cummins led Case Construction to go with Isuzu engines instead of Cummins.

I'm not sure what's the deal with Cummins, but hey seem to be losing a lot of business selling engines.

If I was looking for a new diesel engine truck, I don't think the Cummins name on the engine would make a difference for me, it would be all about history and what others have experienced with them.

I think Cummins gained a huge boost in name recognition by Dodge, and later Ram in their advertising and promoting it as the best of the best engines. It's all marketing.

Ford started offering International non-turbo 6.9 diesel engines in '83. This was replaced by the 7.3 diesel in '88. Very good engines, low on power. They had a factory turbo on the 7.3 in late '93 into '94. Also a very good engine with more power. They introduced the 7.3 Powerstroke in '94 and used this same basic engine until early '03 when they came out with the 6.0 Powerstroke. Very good power and torque but lots of problems with this engine. It can be rebuilt into a very good engine. Then came the 6.4 from '08-'10. Also a powerful engine but lots of problems. This caused Ford and Navistar to part ways and Ford designed the 6.7. Problems with valves in the early builds but seems to be a good engine overall. My '15 F-450 6.7 makes 440 hp and 860 tq. The '17's are rated at 440/900 or close to that.

Maybe model year '19 will be the one that introduces the tilt front end pickup. So overdue. Finally we'll be able to get to to the enormous radiator and other equipment necessary for these powerful diesels in pickups. Cummins has always been the most serviceable, but even so, it's getting harder and harder to change the filter, get to the turbo and replace the belt, etc.

I'm hoping it will be the next big improvement.

EddieWalker, i think the Isuzu engine in the Case excavator is because Sumitomo of Japan didnt feel like homologating a Cummins engined version for Case badge engineering. Doosan changed the Isuzu in their excavators for a Scania 9 liter inline 5, because it has no DPF for tier 4 final.

Because EPA kept banning SCR technology (incited by Navistar lobbying, Navistar who nearly bankrupted itself by betting on EGR to achieve EPA 10) most American engines got SCR added in a hurry when EPA was finally convinced that laws of physics make EPA 10 without SCR impossible.

American engine development lags behind their European counterparts because of that. Despite being Italian, the FPT 6.7 is a better powerplant than its Cummins brother, just because of the much, much simpler emission system. Absence of cooled EGR also reduces the cooling requirement by 30% which makes the installation in the vehicle also cheaper, both per unit cost as application engineering.

Now when we talk about Deere Tier 4 engines with series turbocharging, and throttle valves in both intake exhaust and EGR channel in order to make the engine eat its own ****, dont get me started...

I love my 2015 Ram Cummins 3500. It has been trouble free and performs well. That Cummins engine was my major reason for purchasing the Ram. I think the Chevy Duramax drove better but I talked to some fleet managers and my mechanic. They felt the Cummins was a more proven engine. I think dropping that would be a big mistake for Ram.

Seems to be working good with Deere. Better than just dumping def to it like all the others. Cooled egr and throttle valves on either the intake or exhaust[ not both except on the powertech 3029ta my 2016 and newer] they actually designed engines aka powertech 2 series around emissions and it seems to be working out. I work at a dealer but no fan boy here, I'm an allis man lol

JD uses DEF for Tier 4 final too...

It was after that i said there was no way we would put a JD tier 4 interim engine in our machines if their only vision was to double on failing EGR and VGT tech fot T4i, that they introduced a DPF less engine for the rental equipment market...
