6.0 Powerstroke letter

I got the letter. I have an '05 6.0. I have had two or three EGR's, oil cooler, hpop, complete injectors, radiator, and now I'm replacing both heads. I'm only at 84k miles. My dealer says I drive like a granny when he hooked the computer up. Have all scheduled maintenance and take real good care of that truck. I didn't mention that I have gone through 8 batteries and a complete front end. The truck has been in the shop two weeks because they can only locate one head. I have a 6.4 with 65k miles. I bought the extended warranty because I have hemorrhaged money on the 6.0. Ford does get you with the ext. warranty. For about $3600 it covers only 48k miles and doesn't cover some of the diesel parts.. The diesel warranty covers only some of the diesel parts but covers the big stuff but it is an additional $4k. I about fell out of the chair during the sales pitch. I'm frustrated but I like/LOVE that truck and aside from a few minor annoyances, if it had a reliable engine, I would keep it forever. I'm hoping (PRAYING) that the new heads will solve my problems for a long time and allow me to either keep the truck or sell it to someone with confidence that I'm not selling them a headache.

I can't afford any more repairs with the warranty I bought at Christmas on the 6.4 and the $6k+ it's going to cost me in parts and labor to fix my heads. I'm not going to bash Ford because I had a GMC that was a lemon and a dodge that the dealer bought back because of frame issues. I just want Ford to be fair and admit they have a problem with the 6.0. I've talked to several companies that run fleet diesels and they will not use 6.0 or buy one used. That has to mean something.
Good lord- there's bad luck, but this reads like a Greek tragedy are they going to put studs in for the new heads and not head bolts? and I get how diesels need to (be worked ) but there is no way driving like a Grandma should cause failure of the heads..Would they have denied the warranty had you (worked the truck)-as abuse? also has Ford Upgraded the heads in some way to prevent a future failure? What happens gasket or head cracking allowing coolant into the chamber?
I have sympathy for you- hope they get it fixed, I'm gonna give Dodge a little credit here -at least they bought the truck back but it sounds like the 6.0 is to old...Do you get a warranty of any value, once they get the 6.0 back together?? Had to go back and check ,- your post is so similar to HAY DUDE I thought you were the same...Bought a 6.0 troubles so bought 6.4 except Ford threatened not to extend his warranty on the 6.4 don't know if he got his problems resolved??? if interested its page 3 post #21

Farmers kids. They have to spend a crap ton every year to offset income at tax time

Chris

Hogwash.
Income??? Seriously??? Lol
I'm a farmer and my kid don't have 2 nickels to rub together.
Only way he's going to college is a football or lacrosse scholarship.
I don't grow govt subsidized crops and I don't want any govt money, either

I agree. The Torque Shift has been proven very strong and tough. Tha Aisin has had nothing but good things said and so far so good. The Allison 5 speeds were underbuilt but the 6 speeds are much better. The main issue with a Allison is it will not handle much extra power so put more than a additional 50HP and problems will arise.

Chris

It's not that it can't handle the extra power, it's that Allison builds the transmission to go into limp mode to protect it from destroying itself when it detects slippage or too much input.
It's a smart transmission designed not to destroy itself. Ask ford, they use them in their medium duty trucks and have for 40 years.
I drive trucks up to 80,000 lbs with Allison HT & MT transmissions in them that dwarf what ford makes. You keep putting this transmission down and by what you say, you really have no idea what you're talking about. Allison builds transmissions ford couldn't build in their wettest dreams.

I finally got them to extend warranty Tuesday 8 days before orig warranty expired. Talk about stressful. It must have helped when I penned the check for $3115 and slid it across the desk to the salesman. While I was forking over my kids future college tuition money to Ford, the service department was doing my latest state inspection. Tie rods toast at 60,000 miles, Front rotors warped and trashed, too. Dealer wants $178 parts for each rod and $375 to install. Also requires $150 front end alignment. Outside of tires feathered, but pass inspection. Waiting for rotors price. Luckily warranty will cover some of it.
Didn't even ask about ball joints. Maybe next inspection.

Built Ford tough.... What a joke!!

Soundguy has a good point. Who new that you could buy a mid 90,s chevy truck with a 5.7 and get 250,000 trouble free miles on it. You still see alot of them on the roads now.

No doubt they are an extremely cheap to maintain truck with decent power. Get a vortec motor turn it into a 383, stick a dana 44 under the front and you have a stout truck. I like my 01 SD though I think they are the more modern version. :D

Glad to hear you got the warranty extended, not so much that it cost that much money to get it. I can't speak for others but if my truck were costing me this much to maintain and aquire (as recommended by Ford mechanic) an extended warranty to insulate myself from future engine expenses, i would be in a world of hurt . I would have to park the truck because the costs would be coming out of a very small budget, and I believe you about it being college money, or at least money that could have been put in the college fund.
I don't think some people have considered the total cost burden of two Ford diesels to you or Yellowdogscv I guess what I am saying is this does not seem fair and as the other poster said (I just want Ford to admit they have a problem with the 6.0) but when was the last time anyone heard of an automotive manufacturer admit a serious problem, that includes all large Automotive manufacturers. Ford, must know what the right thing to do is- fix the diesels under the original warranty and not on the financial backs of the owners.

It is incredibly stressful, but my trucks cannot be parked. There's hay to deliver and equipment to move. Not using my trucks to haul a weekend warrior boat. I'm using them as a business tool to feed my family, so they have to run. Hate to say it, but it's a good thing we have the gmc/dmax. That truck has saved our butt when the ford goes down. Now that the last 6l is gone, I'm relieved, but it needs to be replaced with another truck.

It does happen, but few and far between. GM replaced parts on the 6.5td and the earlier dmax injectors when they went bad after warranty. I think fords problem is they got burned partly by international and they had to sue IH for the 6l problems. They weren't helping a "poor" farmer like me because they were out of pocket a lot of money and ford was struggling financially about the time our 6ls were puking coolant. I'm just glad they're both gone. I wouldn't touch one after what me and some of my 6l owning friends went through. Very stressful and expensive. 6.4l is just as bad, but a different set of problems. Gradually replacing all 3 trucks and have to get through this last 6.4 and then we can look at what's new out there.
I'm thinking about keeping the current gmc, getting another dully HD and maybe an Isuzu cab over. I heard they have a 6cyl now that's pretty strong and much more reliable than the domestic trucks.

You should look into a 2013 DMax Hay Dude. GM is offering terrific incentives right now. I just finalized a deal on a 2013 Crew Cab 2500 Z71 DMax and I did VERY well. The 2011 and newer GM's are great trucks, they finally have a chassis to compete with Ford and the DMax engine is really superb. It pulls like a freight train and feels very smooth. I test drove all three trucks this time out and I'll tell you what; Ford's numbers might be higher at 400/800 compared to 397/765 but my butt dyno felt like the DMax had more power, and I'm not the only one who feels that way either. You're very lucky as before Ford had a vastly superior chassis so if you wanted to handle the most weight you really needed a Ford even if you didn't like their drive train. Now GM and Ram are every bit as good, better in many ways, than Ford so you've got real choices for the real heavy duty stuff. Thankfully ( at least as far as pickups go) the 2000's are over. In the 2010's Ram and GM have caught up to and surpassed Ford in the chassis department so you can use any of the big 3 and get the heavy duty work done.
