you can keep your allison trans, ill take the aisin 6spd, or the torqshift that i have. Although id prefer a nv5600 manual

I agree. The Torque Shift has been proven very strong and tough. Tha Aisin has had nothing but good things said and so far so good. The Allison 5 speeds were underbuilt but the 6 speeds are much better. The main issue with a Allison is it will not handle much extra power so put more than a additional 50HP and problems will arise.

G56 for me. Greatly improved ratios than the 5600, plus part availability is much better.

The Cummins REALLY shines with a real transmission. The torque curve just lends itself to manual shifting. The 6.7, however, doesn't lug quite as well as the 5.9. Even though it does produce better overall torque.

The Allison does indeed hold up well to increased power levels. It all comes down to the tune and how abruptly the power is tuned in.

Opinions do vary. My 04 dmax has 130,000 on it as has had a 6 gun tuner on the whole time. Never been easy on it and have towed a lot with it.

I have an "early" 04 Cummins, and it is pretty much the same as an 03 in terms of lack of emission equipment. The truth is, the common rails themselves were made to improve pollution control with more exact injection controlled by electronics. The benfit is more power also.

I've also heard that by going to a single injection event vs. smaller multiple injections per combustion event can result in better mileage, at the cost of a noisier engine...

I got the letter. I have an '05 6.0. I have had two or three EGR's, oil cooler, hpop, complete injectors, radiator, and now I'm replacing both heads. I'm only at 84k miles. My dealer says I drive like a granny when he hooked the computer up. Have all scheduled maintenance and take real good care of that truck. I didn't mention that I have gone through 8 batteries and a complete front end. The truck has been in the shop two weeks because they can only locate one head. I have a 6.4 with 65k miles. I bought the extended warranty because I have hemorrhaged money on the 6.0. Ford does get you with the ext. warranty. For about $3600 it covers only 48k miles and doesn't cover some of the diesel parts.. The diesel warranty covers only some of the diesel parts but covers the big stuff but it is an additional $4k. I about fell out of the chair during the sales pitch. I'm frustrated but I like/LOVE that truck and aside from a few minor annoyances, if it had a reliable engine, I would keep it forever. I'm hoping (PRAYING) that the new heads will solve my problems for a long time and allow me to either keep the truck or sell it to someone with confidence that I'm not selling them a headache.

I can't afford any more repairs with the warranty I bought at Christmas on the 6.4 and the $6k+ it's going to cost me in parts and labor to fix my heads. I'm not going to bash Ford because I had a GMC that was a lemon and a dodge that the dealer bought back because of frame issues. I just want Ford to be fair and admit they have a problem with the 6.0. I've talked to several companies that run fleet diesels and they will not use 6.0 or buy one used. That has to mean something.

You have bad luck with all brands it seems.

Driving like a granny is part of your issues. EGR and turbo motors need ran hard to blow them out.

The Powerstroke is what finally killed my devotion to Ford and International. Finally got rid of my lemmon last month. Happiest day of my life, will never own another Ford. Not sure what I will replace it with. Most likely a medium duty truck which is cheaper than these new breed of pickups.

I hear you on the medium duty. Seems like pickups are trying hard to do the medium duty job without medium duty parts. Light trucks will always be light trucks. I recently purchased an 01 superduty (7.3). I have always liked the truck and it may not be the baddest truck out there, but I ran them I'm medium duty trucks and they gained my respect through torture.
