Our plan is to only close the gate at night or when we are gone. We will have openers in each car, the house, and have course, one for the tractor. The gate will be ok for up to about 6" of snow, which will cover most of our heavy snowfalls. We've not had a problem during the day.

Being a non drinker..I can only tattle on my friends. When in college, my roommate had been out and was on the tipsy side driving back to campus. He was out in the rural part of the country when he evidently swerved and hit a mailbox.
As I understand it, he hightailed it back to campus and went to bed. Imagine the surprise when a day or so later, the cops show up and bust him for leaving scene of an accident. The accident was something like 2 a.m. and no one around to view it....WHAT HAPPENED???
Seems his car relinguished the front license plate TO the mailbox at the scene of the crime. They simply had to pick it up of the ground and look up his address. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Two young fellows in my area (drinking of course) torched a big barn full of hay about 5 years ago, went down the road and set another fire, then did the same thing; hit a mailbox and knocked their front license plate off. They're both in the state prison now.

Last summer we had kids smashing mailboxes and one of them must have leaned out the window to swing the bat. My brother in law found their cell phone lying in the road next to his box.
He called the "Home" number on the phone and told them he found the phone and they could come get it, they did and the police were there to arrest them.

another plow story. a guy in a lexus spun out and ditched into waist high snow. he flashed and blew the horn so i stopped and waded over to him. how much to pull me out he said with three ones in his hand. 20 bucks i said i am on town time. too much he said, so i says use your cell phone and get a 50 dollar tow. ok 20 bucks he says. i hook him up, getting wet of course. and pull him out. as i go to get paid he tries to drive away. you should have seen that lexus spin as it tried to drag my unhooked dump truck down the road. 50 bucks to unhook i said. he paid and almost spun out again on the way off. my lovely wife was with me that night and she sure liked the fifty i gave her.

That one is as good as the Rural Justice post... After reading posts like that, I am starting to think that people who live in densely populated areas are pretty foolish. Assuming the guy in the Lexus was from a city area. They (City folk) assume that people who live in the rural areas lack intelligence and have a family tree with one branch!

Rick, I'm more interested in your gate than your drunk. I'm thinking about getting one. But $6000 blows my mind. Why does it cost that much? What do you get for that price?
