I suggest you add Montana to your location of Lavina in your profile.

Here we are at Post #29 and the critical information of THE ALTITUDE OF YOUR PROPERTY is unknown. Had Montana been included in your profile someone would have asked your Montana elevation by Post #5.

Altitude reduces diesel engine power output fairly quickly. Over 6,000 feet a turbo-charged diesel engine is recommended in most tractors, in most situations.

It's about 3400 ft, not real high..

Seems some people think yes and some no...i really appreciate everyone's input, it's extremely helpful

I'm going to look at a few 75ish hp tractors today, only thing that was really holding me back on that was the lack of HST

I have a 60 hp tractor and it is handy for lots of jobs on small areas. The acreage is not the issue as much as what you plan to do with the property. If you plan to clip the pastures twice a year to maintain them something large enough for a wide mower or bat wing would be a good choice. You may find you need two or three machines to get things done.

If you're gonna mow three acres a couple of times a year... You could do that with a z-track and weave around those trees @ 10mph! LOL

I like plowing snow in the comfort of a heated cab; with eHydro. So, I get that... But, when it comes time to clear trees, dig stumps and dirt work for building foundations, etc. I saddle up my JD110 construction grade TLB with eHydro tranny.

The decision for you is how often and what kinds of work you really think you'll be doing on your land.

And yes... Several tractors is what alot of us have found to be necessary when working larger acreages.

When your going out to clear trees, you take your 110 over the 5085? Do you feel the 110 is more heavily built for taking a beating vs the larger Deere?
(This may be better as a pm but in case the OP is interested as well I'll post it here)

I suggest you add Montana to your location of Lavina in your profile.

That way everyone responding to your posts will have some idea of your weather, growing season, ALTITUDE and soil.

It is an imposition on your respondents NOT TO KNOW YOUR LOCATION.

It is an imposition on your respondents NOT TO KNOW YOUR LOCATION.

A little harsh on a new guy, don't you think? His original post clearly states he's in Montana. I did a quick Google Maps search to find it, and it was no "imposition" at all (I am already on the internet, after all). There are a lot of members on this forum who, for whatever reasons, choose to not disclose their location. In fact, I count about nine other people on this post alone who list pretty generic locations. I'm not imposed upon whatsoever by not knowing immediate details. It's pretty simple to just ask ... or read the first post.

I think that Kioti is just the ticket for your needs.

The only reason I would think you would want to go larger than 60 hp is if you are going to handle the large big round hay bale that they often use out that way. When you start getting into the 5 X 6 bales they can get quite heavy on the tractor front end. Still it could handle them on an infrequent basis if you need it.
