60" MidMount Mower Deck - compatible with 4100?

Re: 60\" MidMount Mower Deck - compatible with 4100?

forestcreature,

I have a 4100 and the linkage really doesn't get in the way when you take off the MMM. I've bushhogged and used a middle buster with no interference or hangups.

Occassionally you'll get some debris hanging on the rear brackets, but that's about it.

Now, for winter I took the MMM mechanism off. No sense in dragging it in the snow and garbage all winter.

Re: 60\" MidMount Mower Deck - compatible with 4100?

I lost several of those quick release gizmos that hold the pins on the lift arms of the MM from dragging them in the dirt and pucker brush. After that I replaced them with washers and SS cotter pins.

There's an easy way to hold these linkages up and out of the way when the mower is detached. I bought the JD mower lift latch kit. It is a bracket with chains and pins. Vry easy to adjust and will hold your mower or linkage in any position (down or up)

Re: 60

jyoutz,

does this latch kit interfere with the 3pt at all?
do you disconnect anything?
my confusion is due to my experience of moving the 3pt lift lever and the belly mower raises ;)
i have not attempted to use the 3pt while the mower was mounted.

Re: 60

forestcreature,

You use the 3pt hitch to raise and lower the height of the MMM deck. The MMM attachment linkage is directly tied to the 3pt hitch. Take a look at your lower 3pt link arms and you will see how the linkage is attached and how it works.

Re: 60

i have not tried any tests of seeing if the mower linkage will raise indepently of the 3pt swing arms. that is why i was wondering if i have to detach anything if i was to use the latch kit.
any thoughts?

Re: 60

The hitch kit holds the MM up against the frame or any height you want. You cannot lower the deck with the hitch kit connected to it, only implements on the 3pt

Re: 60

forestcreature,

The MMM hangs down pretty low even with the 3pt hitch completely raised. Those darn wheels just like to attach themselves to anything within their reach. I can usually get my MMM reattached in about 5 minutes so I prefer to take it off. Another reason to remove the MMM is that you just might get it hung up on something and damage the MMM, the linkage, or, heaven forbid, your tractor.

Re: 60

thanks for all of the advice, i think i will remove the linkage when i drop the mower for the fall/winter season - and just drop the mower the rest of the time. i have been dropping the mower [but letting the linkage alone] all year without any problems. i do worry about those links when crawling up on a dirt pile. [btw: we have only had a trace of snow this winter...]

Re: 60

forestcreature,

I removed my MMM linkage in late November prior to any snow. Just to get them out of the way. I understand the concern, but like I mentioned. I have had any problems with just the links being there. With the MMM on the otherhand, well..... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
