60\"MMM Belt Tension

Is the belt tension adjustable? I detected a noise this weekend and found that it was the belt "wobbling". My mower may have 4 hours of mowing time on it and I was wondering about any adjustments. The book says that to winterize your mower by relaxing the belt. I saw nothing about tightening or making adjustments.
Any input is appreciated.

Re: 60\"MMM Belt Tension

Isn't there a belt tensioner idler pulley on a spring down there? Hence no need to tighten it...it's always under load. Kinda like what you'd see on some Ford Mustangs...gonna go check mine now.

Re: 60\"MMM Belt Tension

Frank,
Yes there is the spring. I took-off the guards and watched (carefully) as I started the PTO. When I had close to maximum RPM's there was a lot of wobbling in the belt. The belt is rubbing on the bolt on the left side just behind the left pulley. It is probably normal, I just had not noticed it before. But why does the book say to relax the belt tension when we winterize. How is this done? Releasing the spring?
Hmmmmm..................

Re: 60\"MMM Belt Tension

I saw the spring/idler pulley when I was hosing mine off after mowing again for a while today. As far as winterizing, Kubota is either worried about the belt stretching or the spring weakening or something else, I dunno. Since I live in Florida, there isn't a need to winterize anything...the grass always grows down here. Pulling that pulley back a tad and slipping the belt off of it would probably do the trick, although I have never done it personally...just relating from the times I have done it on a Ford (car).

I think the next time I have to hose off down there I'll take one of the covers off and engage the PTO to see if I get any belt wobble. It sounds nice and tight down there, but will check it again when I mow the yard in a few days. A belt rubbing against anything can't be good for it.

Re: 60\"MMM Belt Tension

Frank-what is a "bota-cam"?
AND how did you put the tractor in as a signature?
Thanks for your reply as to belt tension.

Re: 60\"MMM Belt Tension

Billy,
Bota-cam is something I am going to add to my Bota when I get a little bit better at controlling her FEL and Boxblade. Basically it'll be a Webcam from the tractor to my wireless network, but think it'll be video clips more than anything of a B2910 in action. Guess it's just something fun to do, but have to wait for my canopy 1st.
As far as adding a signature, there's a thread that describes it titled "Signature" or "signatures"...something like that. Do a search for it and it'll show you how. You do have to 1st draw yourself a tractor or find a picture of something to use, then convert it to .jpg with Frontpage or the like. Takes a little time, but it does work.
