Well I got the call yesterday from my well driller. When he called he said, "We're at 600' and getting only about 1/2 of a gallon per minute. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO?"

That the last thing you want to hear. 600'x$8.00 per ft. $ 4,800.00 dry hole. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

So I gave it a lot of thought and replyed "What do you think I should do?" He then told me he was in good rock with lots of cracks so he would drill a few more rods and see what happens.

Then next few hours seemed like forever. Then he called with an update..... He could have worked me hard but he got right to the point. "640' and 15 gallons per minute"

Boy when they say "it's always darkest before dawn" they are right.........

That's good news. You don't want a low producing well. It's a drag.

Glad to hear you got some good water but $8.00 a foot that is awful cheap, I just paid something like $20.00 a foot.

Make sure he puts a good deep pocket under it and give you a good resevoir...I have a 90' pocket on mine. We hit water a 430' and put a 90' pocket below where the vain comes in.

Please explain what a pocket is.. Never heard of this term for wells.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The natural water level in this hole is about 180' so I have 400' of water storage. With 15 gpm I'll have a hard time even lowering the water level a little bit, much less 440'

Similar experience, when my well driller was at 300' and nothing - zippo. He wasn't sounding too chipper. Said he would put one more 20' length on and then would decide what to do next.
BINGO. Hit water, that filled up 160' into the well. Pumped hard on it (don't recall the exact numbers, but seemed like 25 gpm) and said they couldn't lower the level more than 5'. Put the well pump in at 200', and for 36 years, has been doing fine, and now on the second pump.
