I will say that my experience with my XUV Gator gasoline was not that promising. Mine had been modified somewhat but under a load it at best burned around one gallon per hour. I got right at 5 hours of use on a tank. My diesel right now is at 7 hours on this tank and still has about one-quarter left in it. I am happy for anyone who gets a nice machine such as an XUV Gator, but I personally would not have gotten the gasoline model. When these machines first came out I stated that I felt the gas model was the equal of the diesel. I was very wrong. There simply is no comparision between the two. Unless one is running in deep water and needs that clutch enclosure go diesel. They are faster, run better, pull better and get much better fuel economy. My feeble ears also think they are more quiet when in operation--although they are louder at idle. Unless you have taken delivery of your gasoline Gator, it is not too late to go diesel.

The JD salesman said that diesel fuel is better suited than gasoline if you are not going to run a vehicle for a period of time.

He said sometimes they have to drain the fuel on their gas models on the lot that haven't been run for X weeks. (he was guessing maybe 6 weeks). But the diesels don't have that problem.

Sound right?

I don't see why that would be right if you added stabil to the gas it should be fine. I added stabil to my swisher mower before winter and the battery was dead this spring so I started it by pulling... Did it in one pull. I add the diesel version of stabil to my diesel tank as well though so I don't see that it wouldn't go bad either.

Hey vics I think just the opposite is true. Desiel fuel will age sooner than gas. It gells and will also form a bacteria if not cycled. Once this algea grows inside filters, fuel lines, and tanks it takes a complete tear down to clean it out properly. My opinion is that if your using your machine daily, diesel is the way to go. What if I use it only weekly or even just monthly during the winter?

just go out to the barn and fire it up every so often like i do with my generator. but i have to disagree about the desiel doing bad sitting there . because i worked on supply boats offshore and we would stack them (park them at the dock for a long period) and we never had to add anything to the tanks. we would even leav them for months at a time some were left for almost 4 to 5 months and all we had to do was change out fuel filters if the dates were old but if they were good we would just fire up the compressors and build up air pressure then hit the air starters and that was it .now as for as the gelling desiel will gel in exstreem cold temps but as for as long storage i would go with a deisel.

Yeah I'd also like to mention when I add stuff to my tank it sits there for about 4-5 years and through freezing temps. You can't have gas sit there for 4-5 years even with stabil.
