6500 slipping clutch (only 250 hrs)

glad to hear this. Also, does the mechanic think this will happen often or do they know what caused it to fail so early? I was box blading earlier today and careful to listen for slipping. Heard some high pitch sqeals a time or two but I think that was the draft control or hydraulics. Tractor seemed to work fine.

Keep us posted on your progress please. Also, if anyone is out there with say 400 hours or more and no clutch trouble I would like to hear about it to feel better /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Okay, so can you describe the clutch slipping sound? Does it sound like a low pitch chirp? I heard a noise a few times, a really short low pitch chirp. Is that the clutch? Oh, by the way, I only have 20 hours on it. If I am hearing this do I need to make an adjustment? It was very intermittent, but I did hear it about 8 times while I was working this weekend.

( That is exactly how mine started. Mine would slip while I was trying to fluff hay. A 2 basket tedder. I adjusted the clutch and got it to pull, but now when I am turning any rpm at all and try to press the clutch and release it it squeals like crazy. I might add that I have not received any assistance from the dealer or Mahindra. Seems this can happen when you " over rev " the engine. Only thing is none of the other tractors I owned in the past had this problem. I geuss the Mahindra just has so much power it's over reving all the time. Mine only has 300 hrs on it and it will need a new clutch before my warranty is up. Only thing is thats a normal wear item. I geuss Mahindra should just tell you they will warranty anything that doesn't go bad, but if it does go bad it's your problem. )

I'm sorry you don't believe you received any help from Mahindra. I did send you an email explaining that reducing the engine RPM before clutching is recommended to prevent excessive wear and the squealing.

Tim there was no sound. The wheels would slow or later stop and engine rpm would not change.

I must be hearing something else then. I'll have to track it down.

Got it back today. Dealer said Mahindra was yanking them around. Mahindra sent them an older version clutch. Dealer told them mine had a newer version. Mahindra said put it on anyway. Dealer held out and waited for a clutch like the one he took out.

That sounds kind of weird. Parts are ordered by part #. I suspect the dealer ordered the wrong part #, and is blaming it in Mahindra to save face.

I'd appreciate an update on this if possible.

Did anyone ever find out if it was a regular problem that Mahindra has now fixed in their tractors or just a couple of blurps for whatever reason? I'm thinkin' just some misfortunate blurps.

Has anyone else had any problems? According to the dealers I talked with, only one claimed they had a clutch problem and they blamed it on the customer, although it was warrantied, and several stated they have customers with much more than 300 hours and no problems. Of course to sell a tractor they might would say this... they all pretty much told me that had performed some type of warranty work on at least some Mahindra's. Makin' me feel better, nearly all of them sell some other brand of tractor and stated they have just as many or more warranty claims or general repairs with those other brands.

Still curious for an update though.

Thanks!

Just curious if I'm gonna need to worry about having my clutch replaced at 250-300 hours.

What type of transmission did your 6500 come with? My 6000 has the 8 speed (4spd Hi/Lo) shuttle as it has the 4WD. Just wondering if they changed the tranny when they built the 6500 as the engine is a tad different than the 6000. BobG in VA

Bob the 6500 has the same setup. 4 gears, high/low, forward/reverse, so 8 different forward speeds and 8 different rear speeds. (i'd hate to see someone going in high 4 reverse though /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ).
