Lots of real good ideas here. I'm learning a lot. Had never heard of Malone Specialty adapters and also never thought about thermal lance work. Both those resources look good.

I wonder if you could weld a really heavy washer to the end of the pin and then weld a huge nut to that, so you could apply rotating force instead of lengthwise push. If the pin has seized to its bore then rotating it might break it free with less force than a straight push.

Or ... apply rotation, push, and heat (to the sleeve) all at the same time.

At a former employer we had a grease enforcer : a pipe with a fine threaded nut welded on top, with a grease pump head on one side and a bolt screwed into the other side. If the impact wrench turned that bolt into the grease filled pipe, something had to give... either the blockage in the grease channel released or the tip broke off the zerk.

Perhaps I am reading this wrong, but youæ±*e not heating the PIN when trying to press it out are you?

And I doubt 20 tons will push it out. A big sledge while pressure is applied with the jack would help.

No, I am heating the bushing around the pin to expand it. The problem is their is a whole lot of metal attached to it which acts like a large heat sink.

I wonder if I drilled a hole in each end (the length of a drill bit) would that allow the pin to compress a little and maybe come out easier?

I welded the pin to the bucket on both sides and then rotated the bucket. The weld broke. I tried this twice. I even preheated it and used a 7018 rod

Post some pictures of several views. It might jog a potential solution. You obviously have more that just hardened grease. It doe not take a lot of heat to soften grease. In fact heating to cherry red may compound the problem by burning into a solid. One problem with the hammer is if there is not solid backing against the arm a lot of the energy is lost due to movement of the arm when force is applied. Is there somewhere that you can back the arm up to a solid vertical and brace the arm against that, like a building frame post? Also a vertical swing with a hammer has more shock value than a horizontal swing due to body mechanics. The thermal torch is a great tool but hard to find in a farm/home shop.

With a 10" long contact I doubt you can get any type solvent thru and around much of the pin. There is possible a lot of rust in there if it wasn't used a lot and lubed frequently by the previous owner. Where are you located? We may be able to steer you to someplace that has a thermal torch as that is probably your best option.

I had the dipperstick sitting on a wood block against the floor but you are right it wasn't as steady as it could have been. If I have to, I can take it outside and put it against one of the I beams holding my shed up

Thanks for clarifying. I just wanted to confirm and no offence was intended.

The drill approach might work if the hole was large enough but I am doubtful.

The exothermic lance would be the best solution if you could find someone to do it for you. IMO of course.

Dont know if its feasible but you could take it to a heavy equip dealer and see if they could push it out with their track press. Track pins require an unbelievable amount of pressure to come loose. They have portable ones on their service trucks also. If a track press wont remove it then youll have to cut it out.
