Actually, I think I'd rather have a tractor I know I could depend on, and a baler that I absolutely know ill work perfectly, then having a big tractor - that wouldn't get used as much, so would be less reliable - and a old baler that craps out ever 100 bales.

JMHO

Also, your definition of lawn tractor is very different to mine.

I'm guessing SammyD's comments might not be all that popular.

I'm personally with Greg and Grrr, I think it's enjoyable to see the inventive ways folks get the job done. But it's probably just that I can relate, as I've just got a little operation myself.

Huh???

My old 4 wheeler needs replaced and I have been looking at Yamaha's and Rhino's. I just didn't think any of the UTV's could tow that much. My main use would be checking cattle and using with a spot sprayer. My wife just wants me to get a bigger 4 wheeler and I really like the Mule. I guess we shall see if I get serious about shopping for one.

Get a UTV - they are so handy around the ranch.

It is really handy when you have a sick calf and need to haul them up to a barn. You know - they only get sick in the nastiest of weather.

If you thought that was funny, I use a golf cart to hop around at my place. Threw a Lil' TYkes Dozer bed on the back to carry stuff around. I have a decent 4 wheeler, but the golf cart is more handy.

I suppose you'll really find this picture funny... That's Y2K hay delivery at 85 mph.

With traction control, the C5 will probably pull it fine. Where did you put the brake controller...

Looking back at some of his other posts I think that is his goal.:(

I think its just because even guys making 10,000 bales a summer would be hard pressed to justify buying a brand new baler. They are so expensive given the margins on hay sales.

I think some people would be surprised at the equipment hauling hay because if that baler was operating at capacity the hauling equipment would in no way be able to keep up to the baler. I'm assuming the barn is just off the edge of the photo for the operation to be done in a timely manner.

I'm not gonna make fun of anything because I run a 50 hp Kubota compact for all my haying that all the local farmers tease me about. This year I pulled the racks behind the baler. I've baled about 1500 squares so far this summer, have about 100 rounds left to go then second cut will start. In years past I did a lot of the neighbours, almost 4000 small squares bales with the kubota, can do about 400 bales an hour in good fields dropping on the ground.

Well I am happy I made someone smile:D the reason I bought a new baler is because I purchased a used baler and all I had was trouble with it. So I found this baler as a leftover and got a great deal on it and now I am not worrying about a baler that is not working properly.

And yes my tractor is small (sorry sammyd it does not please you) but it works fine for the small operation that I have here. I am doing this for myself ,not to make a living at it , I have another job that I am paid quite well doing .

You have a great day
Greg

I guess I've never seen anyone make hay with lawn tractors before.
You were really gonna pull that baler with a 27 HP lawn tractor?

Just me but I woulda spent the money you spent on that baler in a whole different manner.
