Med. duty may be a totaly subjective term. I used my JD MX-6 for the first time and mowed an acre and a half of pure brush RE; small trees of one to three inches on Dia. Now the M in MX-6 stands for med. duty however this unit weighs in at close to a thousand pounds and has ( I think) 90HP. gear box.
Other manufactures HD units are not built with two layer decks and the ability to do this kind of work and hold up in the long run. I don't think it is fair to compair units that cost 3-4 times as much as other ones no matter what they are called.
And no, I didn't hit any trees so I don't know how it will hold up to that.

MMM, I'm with you. In an earlier post I mentioned some brands that I feel are not there yet compared to some long-time players in the rotary cutter market. I see where folks have had some of these for a few hours, three yrs. and are quite happy. I'm proud for them but I expect many, many years from a cutter and pretty much be able to use it in multiple applications on an acreage that is quite diverse. I don't go to the discount ag places like TSC for such purchases. I shop those places and am like a child in a toy store but I'm selective what I buy there. Other folks expectations and needs are different to mine. To them I say; "buy what you think is right for you".

Well guys, I wasn't intending to do a product comparison and looks like I'll stay away from mentioning brand names in further discussions so as not to ruffle feathers. I will say don't expect to spend $700 and get much more than a pasture clipper. I might possibly have gotten a "Monday Built" cutter, but I won't take a chance on that model again......unless I need a cheap cutter for just clipping.
