72" MMM. Dang, its heavy!!

I put new blades on the 72" MMM for my 955 over the weekend. Other than the center blade bolt being stripped, it went OK (I replaced all three bolts and washers. $30 at my dealer):smiley_aafz:

Afterwards I put the deck on the tractor, and man, it seems to get harder every time I put it on. That thing has to weigh 300 pounds. Solid as a rock. I actually had to have a friend come by and help me slide it under the tractor.

Do any of you folks have an easier way of storing or moving such a heavy mower? I like its construction, but I'm not getting any younger.

Actually it is well over 300 pounds. My 60 inch deck is 325 pounds, and your 72 inch is quite a bit more.

I can store mine near the tractor on a concrete floor so I just rotate the wheels sideways and roll it off to the side. I use the right front deck wheel to steer it when I push it back under the tractor. Keep the tractor wheels turned left and the left front mower deck wheel removed for clearance. For changing blades, I use a floor jack to tilt it up from the front and then put jack stands under the front while the back is held in place with the wheels turned sideways. I do have to use a hand truck at first to lift the front up enough to get the floor jack under it.

One tip to remember when attaching the drive-shaft to the tractor is to put the PTO selector to the rear-only position so the mid-PTO shaft can turn freely.

Are you ona hard surface or dirt?
Mine is heavy but it's very easy to roll under the tractor on concrete. I'm not putting mine under a 9555 so not sure how much you have to jockey it. If it does not go strait under you could use a floor jack to lift the front of the tractor which may allow you to roll it straight in. I also udjust the deck hight knob several turns lower so that I don't have to lift the deck in order to connect it. Then just turn it back to where it was.

I think the mower deck and hardware is closer to 400 lbs (seems twice that). The new drive-over deck must be awesome for install/uninstall...... put it on my wish list (doesn't cost anything on wish list).

I can't help with the actual mounting. But for moving and storage I can share my solution. I made it out of the material on the scrap pile. It uses the same mounting hardware and makes it easy to pick up for cleaning, moving or storage. We use a pallet rack for storage so it's up off the ground during the raining season. Sorry for the poor pict. I guess I should have hosed it off before I took the photo instead of after.

Mine rolls easy on cement with the wheels turned. I store it on the second floor of my pole barn. carefully slide my forks under it and lift it to the second floor for winter storage. To change/sharpen blades in the summer, I drive the tractor up blocks. Then I can get a 1/2" impact under them while it's still on the tractor.

Had the option of the drive over deck. Didn't get it and thought I might regret it. I really don't. I can have the deck on or off in less than 5 minutes after doing it a couple of times.

You got me. Haven't poured the floor yet. Had to use boards.

I have the 72" MMM on my 855. I thought I recall it weighing in at 500lbs. The weight and mounting it is one of the reasons I'm thinking of either finding a smaller deck or another tractor with a smaller deck (preferred but more $$$).

I don't have the luxury of a concrete surface for parking it so I park it on a spot with very hard packed dirt, no stones. It's easier than it might be but still hard.

I store it outside when not mounted, to bloody heavy. Where I plant afte removal is where it stays until I mount it again. Over winter, I put it on a cart in a shed. Logging chain and FEL are my friends when it's time to mow again.

I could not find the data, but I also remember it being about 500 pounds. The 60 inch would be a much more manageable deck for you.

Too much grass. I like the the 72" cut, and the fact that it protrudes from the sides of the tractor. Makes it easier to cut around the pasture fenceposts.

I will say though, that deck is one tough mother. I do not even want to think what it would cost new.

I think those weights for the 72 inch deck are wrong. (Imagine that) I have other data that shows the weight for both standard and 7-iron decks as 448 pounds. That sounds more correct.

Welcome to TBN brienk. Glad to have you here. Thanks for the info. I cannot locate my reference data, but I certainly do remember back then somehow knowing the weight was 500 pounds. Very heavy deck to deal with, but also very sturdy. My 60 inch version has given zero problems for 17 years.

On another note, I noticed while I was changing the blades that there is a bracket of some sort behind the blade area. Is there a roller assembly that fits in there? I bought it used a year ago. I'll go out and take a picture tonight if it helps.

Yes, there is a rear roller assembly similar to the one on the front.

I've priced out the parts I need to refresh all of the worn parts on my deck (front casters need repalcement, gauge wheels need it, anti scalp rollers are worn, splines on the shaft are worn).... $$$$$$$$$

Oh, I need a belt too.
