Blanket statements like worse mileage, higher insurance and registration, and repair costs, doesn't apply in my case.

Oddly enough, your blanket statement above is just as invalid;

So what you're implying is that you know what my mileage, insurance cost, registration and repair costs are?

That's a bit creepy since I usually have to look those numbers up to be sure.

Thankfully, enough hard work (and not having kids surely helps) I've been able to buy if not the best but a very close tool for the job.

But despite having several vehicles, not a single one can do everything.

What car built today can do what a modern half ton can?

Most 3/4 tons built 30 years ago wouldn't do what a modern half ton can. ;)

Nice deflection. Yet what does that have to do with your blanket statement?
I don't think that a direct answer to your question should be considered a deflection. Maybe we're getting blanket statements mixed up here?

Either way, I still feel that 1500s are basically cars with tiny beds. I'm not sure you can still get an 8' bed on a 1/2-ton, but even if you can there's no meaningful load capacity to go with it.

There are SUVs with similar towing capacities and load ratings. For example, my '23 Durango had a 600 lb. higher tow rating (8,700 lbs.) than my '21 1500 does. Also, its load rating (1,590 lbs.) was 233 lbs. higher.

To me that means the Durango was a better 1/2-ton than the pickup is, both with the same engine. Not that I've checked if a sheet of plywood fits in a Durango, but if I have to go get some I'd use a trailer anyway. Makes it much easier to use palletforks or the forklift.

Maybe not 30 years, but around 50 years ago they could.

I'd like to see a mid 80's 11'6" Lance on a modern 1/2-ton. Okay, I wouldn't. It'd be ugly and wouldn't end well.

So you're basing your opinion off of buying the lowest rated half ton, again what car today can do what a properly spec'd half ton truck can do? Youve been given several examples of normal half ton trucks that can do way more than you claim. Come on, you made the claim now back it up.

Fuel economy among all the 1/2 tons similarly equipped is very close.
I’d say the driver’s habits will determine which truck gets better/worse mileage than anything (excess idling, too much acceleration, riding brakes, etc.)

Friend of mine up the street has a ‘23 3500 6.6L gas and the fuel economy is brutal. It’ll get sideways if you stomp it, but most sensible people don’t buy trucks to race them.

Sorry, but I'm getting tired of this. I have provided my thoughts and real life numbers, if that doesn't suit you so be it.

And I have to give you credit for not being as rabid as much of the EV crowd is.

Thank you, but what you just said invalidates your claim because you cannot back it up with anything relevant today.
