75% of truck owners tow 1/year or less?

I don't think that a direct answer to your question should be considered a deflection. Maybe we're getting blanket statements mixed up here?

Either way, I still feel that 1500s are basically cars with tiny beds. I'm not sure you can still get an 8' bed on a 1/2-ton, but even if you can there's no meaningful load capacity to go with it.

There are SUVs with similar towing capacities and load ratings. For example, my '23 Durango had a 600 lb. higher tow rating (8,700 lbs.) than my '21 1500 does. Also, its load rating (1,590 lbs.) was 233 lbs. higher.

To me that means the Durango was a better 1/2-ton than the pickup is, both with the same engine. Not that I've checked if a sheet of plywood fits in a Durango, but if I have to go get some I'd use a trailer anyway. Makes it much easier to use palletforks or the forklift.
OK, whatever. I will pretend to agree with you that an 8 foot bed in a 1500 is tiny, while in a ton truck that exact same bed isn't.

I’d say the driver’s habits will determine which truck gets better/worse mileage than anything (excess idling, too much acceleration, riding brakes, etc.
Most definitely. My Colorado can easily get 25 if I want it to. Yesterday I went 200 miles down the interstate, today I came back home.
I got about 18. 😄 It does great at 50, good at 65-70... anything more than that and mileage drops.

I used 4WD and low range twice today hauling hay. I’ll do it again tomorrow.

Thank you, but what you just said invalidates your claim because you cannot back it up with anything relevant today.
I thought I gave you numbers from within the past two years, but if they don't count I suppose I have to give up.

What the...?

Did I not explain clearly enough that my 1500's 5'6" bed is shorter than my 3500's 9' bed??

You are the king of deflection.
Could be. Or someone who's posts are interpreted with some bias.

Come to think of it, please point me in the direction of a 1/2-ton that'll replace a few of our vehicles, and doing a better job at it.

A lot of the 3/4 and 1 ton pickups are used to haul campers, today's RV's and boats can exceed 10,000 lb.
Those same PU's are also used as daily drivers.

I do think 75 to 80% of the 1/2 ton pickup's on the road today are just daily drivers because guy's and some gal's like pickup's.
