My 76 YM 155D has blown the bearings out of the steering worm gear AGAIN!
I either need to get a new steering column shaft w/gear block or figure out how to rebuild mine properly.

Last winter, I ordered Hoye’s parts, but they were the wrong length/dia, so I tried to straighten the tubes and put it all back correctly, but it let go after only a few hours of use.
Are there any used parts suppliers you folks have dealt with I could get a column or full steering box assy from or possibly a unit from another model/manufacturer that would fit close?
Or do you have any options for getting it rebuilt or new parts manufactured?

Maybe not very helpful but ...

When I rebuilt the steering box on my first YM186D I found the box was from a recognized third party. And, the box casting and likely the bearings, also appeared for Datsun 240. (But the steering shaft and tube would be unique to each application).

I don't recall now the name I found, but I recognized it, it also appeared on some American cars' steering gear. Maybe Saginaw??? Not likely, but I see there are rebuild kits for those.

Possibly your box is in common with many Japanese cars and the parts are out there, if dealing with Yanmar-specific vendors is a dead end.

What I found interesting is Bearings at Fredricks # SB-750 2 per column
155 W/19mm shaft.
The only other size shaft I see is for the YM 1100,1300 15.5mm shaft.

If you need the manuals, the YTOG has several for your YM155(D) machine.

I believe the last one, YM-1 goes into the steering gear box with more details.

I saved this posting on the site from 2010. It may help, it may not.

See the Hoye archived website page in the PDF attached.
Again, @AaronM 's write up is very helpful.
