At least that is what I think it is.

I've got 110 hours on the 7610. I have a problem with the engine cutting off only when mowing (mmm).

I cannot reproduce the problem with the engine running at idle or running back and forth with the mower disengaged. it will only happen when mowing.

It is an on/off situation. Plenty of power..... never bogs down...... never drops rpm except when it seems like it shuts off. It always starts right back up with no trouble. Sometimes it will go on and off a couple of times in a minute and other times 30 minutes without it happening.

Thinking it is a fuel problem I changed the fuel filter which was the first time since new.... it was cruddy...... did not make a difference (except now I have a drip drip form the seam where the filter screws in....... is there a rubber gasket I lost in the process?)

I'm convinced that somewhere one of the safety switches is not adjusted properly or malfunctioning....... I'm convinced the fuel shutoff valve is being told to shut off.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance....... I know someone is going to identify the problem...... or it will be a longgggg trip to the dealer.

I'd sure suspect the seat switch. The clutch switch should not kill the engine once it is running. The HST neutral switch shouldn't either. Check adjustment on the seat switch. If it is OK try shorting the wires. If that fixes it you can replace the switch. If not, you may have a loose wire/connector somewhere. Those can be a pain to find.

It is not the seat switch.

I bypassed that switch and was out mowing (in the dark with lights!) and for 30 minutes I thought it was fixed...... then blahhh....

This time I disengaged the mower and played around. It did cut out this time with the PTO in neutral and I was able to reproduce the cutting out...... I'm now convinced it is a switch in the HST pedal........ with the engine off after it cuts out and then going from neutral position to foward I heard a clicking of a switch.... rocking the pedal back and forth from these to positions reproduced the clicking...... starting up in neutral and going forward slowly was OK until I hit that spot...... and then nothing.....

Then at other times the clicking would go away and I could not reproduce it..... the engine would run fine.....

In the morning I'll have to get under there and inspect and see what kind of trouble I can get into. It doesn't make sense to me why this would be happening but an answer will be found!

Don't forget to look for sticks that may have lodged themselves into something underneath. I have had that happen several times on my B7510. It's more thrilling when they lodge in the HST pedal while it is in the full forward position!

It does not seem logical that the HST pedal would cause the tractor to stop since it has to be able to operate in any position without the engine stopping. Having said that I am not going to say it can't be. My L3400 cautions about adjusting the pedal stops with a warning about serious damage. Maybe they have an overtravel switch on some models. I'd love to see the circuit diagram.

I don't know much about the electrics on these things yet. I am looking forward to getting the shop manual on my L3400 as soon as they are available.

Check all the connectors. I hope you find something obvious. Please let us know what you find. Good luck!

I agree that it does not seem logical......

This morning I went out and inspected and poked and proded...... couldn't see that anything was wrong and could not identify a switch or anything in the HST pedal mechanism... the mower deck was on and that prevented me from getting under it properly......

And then I ran it around cutting grass for 30 minutes and could not reproduce the problem which has been consistent....

Later today I'll run it some more...... darn gremlins are at it again...

OBTW.... there is an o-ring that goes with the fuel filter that I lost in changing the fuel filter and that is why I now have a drip....... /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Today things are working fine despite not doing anything to actually fix the problem....... however.......

After running it for about 45 minutes without a problem I turned it off..... when I went back to it I had a no turnover no start situation..... no solenoid click.... checked all safetys..... nothing..... fortunately I stumbled on checking fuses and the 5 amp "key stop" fuse was burnt..... replaced it...... now everything is fine.

I'm not convinced the gremlin is dead but for now I'll just run it and wait.......

You sure do have a gremlin. Hope you get to the bottom of it. If it blows another fuse maybe a dealer can tell you what is on that circuit. Key stop sounds like the fuel solenoid valve. Maybe that has a loose wire or is going bad.

I ran it about another hour today without problems..... the gremlin is sleeping for now and I'm not going to go looking for it for now. The seat switch is connected and all my safetys are working.
