I have read many posts about leaks in front axles.....especially when there is a lot of loader work. I have developed a leak in my front right joint of the MFWD axle of my JD 770. My question is.....how hard is it to replace? Can a novice like me do this? The parts blow up on the JD web site looks easy to me. Any tips or warnings? All input is appreciated.

How much is it leaking? Is it wet and dirt sticks or is it loosing a measurable amount of axle lube?

Mine weeps a bit, but until it actually starts loosing fluid enough to be noticable on the stick, I probably won't re-seal it. Let us know what you plan on doing and if you do tear into it, please post some pics!

Question #1......the axle is just weeping. I check the axle oil level every time I get some seat time. It is not losing fluid to the point I have to add every time.....however I have added a squirt now and then over the last year. It really started looking worse after I finished my driveway a month ago. Question #2......I am OK with a wrench.....I am just finishing a repair to my 7 backhoe I tore down to have the cylinders rebuilt and to replace hoses......camera phones are great on progress pictures when time elapses between tear down and rebuilds.:D
