790/3005 - anyone with a mid-mount mower?

...and the issue of the mid mower only working with the R1 tires. In the end I ended up passing over the 790/3005 and going to the more efficient gear transmission that is the PowrReverser on the 3320 (you should check one out, no clutching when changing directions and gears can be shifted while in motion, but that's another story for another time).

I believe the 790/3005 tractor will work with R1's (ag tires) and R3's (turfs), but they won't work with R4 Industrials.
The Power-Reverser tranny with it's 12 gears forward/12 gear reverse would definitely work great with the mid-mount mower. If the mowing area has a lot of obstacles, the 790/3005 will require a lot of gear shifting. Only reason I ever considered replacing my 790 with a 3320 was because of mowing and the ease of the power-reverser.

Your correct. Which ever tractor I bought I wanted R4's on, and I knew the 790 was one tractor that R4's and a MMM weren't compatible together on. The PowrReverser is definitely the "cats meow" when it comes to a manual tranny guys "kryptonite". It's nice being able to stay turned around when mowing and just having to reach for the Reverser lever to change directions and not having to fool with a shifter or pedal. I still have to shift to slow down when taking some turns, but since all the gears are synchronized, it makes for a nice smooth shift, almost like driving a vehicle.

I have a freind with a 790/R4's/mmm. He'd love to sell the MMM too!
Apparently raising/lowering the MMM is attached to the 3pt, so to do anything with the tractor, he has to remove the MMM, which is why he quite using is right after he got in. I've not looked at it, but if I needed an MMM for mine, I believe I could figure out a way to do it with a seperate cylinder. But, my yard is so small I push mow in in 30 minutes. It's too tight for even a small rider.
