Backhoe 8 Backhoe Not working

First time posting: Backhoe is operating very slowly.

8 Backhoe is on a 950 w/ loader. Since I bought the machine the dipper stick straightened slowly.

After about 50 hours of digging a cellar hole I bent the dipper stick ram while trying to pull out a stump. Replaced ram w/ new seals (could they have been installed incorrectly to cause this problem?) Put seals in like the old ones?? Plenty of fluid.

Now the backhoe works very slowly in all operations except dropping the boom, loader still works fine. Sounds like a relief valve is squealing perhaps in the tractor?

Well I worked my way through it.

There was squealing coming from a restricted return line.

When I first took apart the quick connect I noticed some rubberized cloth. In the end the turned out to be packing from the cylinder rebuild. Apparently in our haste to rebuild the cylinder we got the piston part installed backwards which allowed packing to get loose in the system and thus chewed up and plugged stuff up.

The reason the hoe was operating slowly was that the packing got into the rockshaft slow return valve block on top of the transmission, blocking the return oil flowing through it on its way to the transmission sump.

I must have taken about a tablespoon worth of ground up packing out of the valve block. I cleaned that out and the screen and repacked the cylinder.

It has been frustrating trying to figure it out but worth it in the end. I now know a lot about how my tractor works. I also discovered a couple of other problems including a missing bolt which could have caused BIG problems down the road.
