8Ft blade on MX5100?

How do I know what hydraulics to get?

A hydraulic top link is manditory. Got mine from CCM, not sure if they are still in business, but there are others that do the same. Side link is optional, depends on what you are doing. Do you have rear remotes installed already? I also added a hydraulic angle to my blade, that was more important than a hyd side link to me. Philip.

It isnt KK's fault people dont choose the right blade for their application and tractor because they didnt want to spend the $$$ to get the right equipment.:confused2:

This is absolutely correct, and it doesn't go for just cheap light weight blades. when I bought my 7520 the dealer sold me on a 680lb blade from MidWest for $1000. Blade was rated for a 60hp tractor and I was told that it would be fine for me. WRONG, bent it THE FIRST time that I used it, got by for another 2 years before I bought a rear blade that would hold up to my tractor. If the implement is matched properly to the tractor, there should be no problems, the secret is to get the right implement for the tractor and the job to be performed. ;)

Can someone give me a little help on putting a hydraulic on the blade...I'm looking at a Grizzly cylinder 3x8 with 2500psi. Is that enough?

Depends on how big the blade is and how big your tractor is

Edit: sorry, I didnt realize you were the OP. Is this the woods HBL96 you are talking about?

I think a 3x8 is going to be WAY too small.

For starters, the stroke length is too short. In order to be able to pivot at least 45 degrees each way, you are going to have to mount it pretty close to the center pivot of the blade. This makes the lever action of the blade over the cylinder MUCH greater.

A longer stroke allows you to mount farther away from the pivot and allow for less leverage effect. Because angling the blade is cake. It is being able to hold it there that becomes the issue. And that can be overcome by using a larger diameter cylinder, and/or lessening the leverage effect.

A quick look on wood's website shows that on their comparable hydraulic blade, they are using a 3.5" x 16" cylinder.

I think that most of the OEMs use either a 3 1/2" or 4" dia cylinders and for your 8' wide blade you should be looking at a 14" stroke. I need to order one of these for myself for my landscape rake. You will; have a tough time of it with only an 8" stroke. If you want to wait, I can ship one with your top link. Probably around $200 with all the shipping and what not. ;)

Dealer found that the cylinder is 3"x ??? (he guessed 8") but they want about $400 and it has everything. He even said just go buy a cylinder somewhere else:thumbsup:
