Aside from your PTO issues, which have been addressed by other posters, you have a more fundamental problem. You will soon learn that your 8N is not suitable for three point snow blower work as the gearing is much too fast, the tractor lacks live PTO, and the power is insufficient for all but the very most ideal conditions.

Is that the same as an overrunning coupler? That's the first thing, IMHO, that needs to be done to an 8N that doesn't have one. My cousin has a rather hair-raising story about a brush hog, an 8N without an overrunning PTO, and a cliff in Arkansas...

I loves me some 8Ns, but not having live power is a definite drawback for some tasks--particularly if, say, your lift can't hold its position without the pump running...

naw.. that's what depth limit chains 'r for.. :)

They work well for some things (I use a cable/pulley system to hold the drawbar for the hay rake), but they're not much help when you're trying to use a boom pole to maneuver red iron beams out of an obstacle-laden area--step on the clutch to control the speed, down goes the lift. That'll flat out make you crazy... :confused2:

you must not understand how a depth limit chain works.

the chain holds the 3pt at it's minimum allowed depth, with no help from the hyds.. YOU set the depth based on chain length... can't drop when you hit the clutch unless toplink rocker rips out or chain breaks... yet you can still LIFT the 3pt higher if pto is turning.

sounds like it would be fine for that situation..

that or just actually oh.. FIX the issue.. IE.. a oring and washer on a nAA piston, and 5$ of paper gaskets.... 4 hours ( if you are slow ) of low grade wrench turning..e tc.

No, I understand how it works; as I said, I use a similar concept to hold the lift height when I have the rake on the drawbar. I do not, however, have a chain setup for the boom pole.

FWIW, my 8N has a fixture at the base of the top link mount with a pulley to accommodate a chain, but the tractor in question isn't mine (plus, my hydraulics work just fine). The owner (my dad) has fixing the 8N's hydraulics on his to-do list, but having a triple bypass earlier this year has kind of backed up his to-do list...

a standard depth limit fixture pins and unpins from the toplink rocker in seconds and is very portable, so would be easy to swap one onto a machine if needed.
