Daryl,

I guess I could have gone with a couple smaller units...sounds like a good solution...but the $429, delivered, no sales tax for that Campbell Hausfield was too good for my needs to pass up.

But now I do have a plan if I need more cfm in the future!

Tomnky,

I had checked out the units at TSC last month but at the time I was considering the IR V-twin and they did not have that one on hand. I think they did have the CH units, but was thinking at a higher level at the time and did not really check them out with much interest.

Still...free delivery and no tax is hard to beat. I have a van, rather than a pickup, so dragging one of these vertical units home would have been a pain.

I will report back on the pains of the delivery after I get the thing off the truck! Don't expect any probems though, as I have palet forks that clamp on my bucket.

Try a HVAC supply for that capacitor. Grainger is another good bet.

They did not have anything the physical size.It is a 40 microfarad at 370vac the capacitor mounts inside the end-cap , so without jury-rigging It (Allied is the only place I could find it) I had to get it there.

It will be here Wednesday. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif It is 1.75 inches in diameter and 4 inches long. The replacement is 1/2 inch shorter but 1/8 inch larger in diameter and I think it can squeeze inside to my best guesstimation.
Thanks for the Suggestion. btw: She is a round One /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just for the record they sent a size different than what was stated in their catalog online .So now it is the Scrap Pile for the Sears and on with the Hunt for a New Compressor!

I am looking hard at the Porter-Cable with an 80 gallon tank(two-stage) or the Ingersoll -Rand from TSC with the 80 gallon tank(single stage).

The IR is $130.00 cheaper but no delivery /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Just an update in case anyone is interested! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Well, I still don't have the air compressor from Harbor Freight Tools.

As a matter of fact, I just got a post card saying they are going to cancel the order, as required by the FTC Mail Order Rule if I don't sign the post card and tell them how long I am willing to wait.

Which I am not going to do, because I think it may just delay the cancellation of the order another month. I would bet someone is selling first at higher prices elsewhere. HF may have a deal with the manufacturer to take excess production, that only appears when other vendors are not selling/ordering at expected levels. Back to ground zero here.

Yesterday I saw a Coleman 60 gallon 135 PSI Max compressor at Costco for around $370. It has an aluminum pump housing with cast iron cylinders.

This is the same one, at the Northern Tool Site (I think)

I think I may just buy this one. I don't have heavy use needs at my end at the present. My old 20 gallon compressor for the most part worked pretty good, except occasionally being short on CFM.

Anyone have one of these? Any opinions on durability of the aluminum/cast Iron sleeve combination?

Thanks for your help! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bill,
Since you're going to be up this way this weekend, you could make the extra 30 to 45 minute drive toward my house and stop at the local Harbor Freight store and pick up the air compressor in person, if they still have one at the store.

Their number is 330-779-3020, if you want to check to see if they have it in stock. I've also found that sometimes the store prices are lower than the catalog prices.

An update for the western PA gang, if anyone ever needs to make a trip to Harbor Freight-

From the I-79 & I-80 interchange, go west on I-80 about 33 miles and exit at exit 223 (this is state route 46). Head south on route 46 for about 1.5 miles to Mahoning Ave. There is a BP gas station on the right hand side. Turn right. Approximately 1/2 mile on the right hand side is Austintown Plaza and the Harbor Freight store.

From Pgh, taking the PA and Ohio turnpikes (I-76), You want to exit at the I-80 interchange (I believe it's exit 218). This exit also gives you an option to exit on County Road 18 (Mahoning Ave). Exiting on Mahoning Ave, go east about 2 miles and Austintown Plaza will be on the left hand side of the road, directly across from Wally World and Sears Hardware.

It's funny that sometimes their prices are lower in the store than in the catalog. Has anyone else ever found this to be true? My father-in-law drove out from Clearfield to buy the $39.99 brad nailer special advertised in the sale catalog, and ended up paying $19.99 for it. That savings covered the gas for the 2 hour drive!

Hi Andy and all,

Well, this morning I cancelled that HF order. Decided to get something NOW local, rather than wait on a promise that might not be filled for a long time.

I happend to see an IR compressor at the Tractor Supply that I stopped at after the lunch meeting on Saturday. $499, about the same specs as all the other cheaper 60 gallon units. I think I am going to buy that one. Looks a lot better than the Coleman unit being sold by Cosco and should be worth the extra $130.

Thanks for the directions to the HF store. Might take a drive up that way one of these days when I feel like browsing tools, something I can spend hours doing... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
