In regards to power on hills. The HVT system is unlike anything you've ever driven. For convenience Kubota linked the hydrostat and the throttle into one pedal. So,,,,, you start trying to climb a grade and the machine slows, so you push the pedal farther, which speeds up the hydrostat, which bogs the engine, which causes the machine to actually lose ground speed, so you push farther, same result...... Before you know it you are stalled and the machine will not move forward..... Very frustrating. I walked out of the timber several times to get the tractor..... I was very unhappy!!!!!! Stupidest setup I had ever used. Why couldn't they do it like an HST tractor??? Set the throttle and then apply however much HST the engine can handle.
After some educating on my part I bought a hand throttle kit. Now if I'm in a bind I can open the hand throttle, usually wide open engine speed, then apply however much pedal that I need to get the most effective use of the HST. Works much better.
With all that said. Understand this is a 2000lb machine. It absolutely cannot develop ground speed to get a run at anything. So it's left with having to crawl up everything. I have learned it's limitations and haven't been stuck for at least a year.
