93 Chevy 3500 for a farm truck

No, that was intended for the OP. I had to change out my fuel pump on my 1994 3/4 ton Chevy this past summer. I lifted the box off in my driveway so I had easy access to it.

I guess your first time was just for the practice?

Nope. Brand new fuel pump died just a few weeks after installation. And I was out at our rural property with a full load of firewood on the car hauler trailer. Started it up. Drove forward about 20 feet and blaaah! DEAD! Glad I wasn't pulling onto the highway when that happened!

Also, its a Suburban, so I can't pull the bed. The guy that changed the fuel pump the first time wasn't too happy about having to drop my 42 gallon tank again. Fortunately, it only had about 15 gallons in it this time. All covered under warranty. :)

This week has been very busy so I haven't had a chance to work on the truck at all. I did drive it to work one day this week and it took a few minutes to get it to start in 30 degree weather. It's a lot of fun to run the windshield wipers early in the morning when you don't know if they are going to turn off or not :)

I will keep an eye on the fuel pump. The farthest I will be driving is to my farm, which is 10 miles from my house. If it does go out, I won't be out of luck too bad because my farm is right in the middle of town.

It may just be the control board for the motor which is ~$20-30 with lifetime warranty from O'reilly's or you can get the whole kit-and-kaboodle for ~$50-75 with lifetime warranty.

Since it's a farm truck, some people have cut an access patch out of the bed over the fuel sending unit and bolted it back in place. That way if it does go out, you'll have easy access to it from the top without having to lift the bed off.

My wife's uncle bought a beater truck, 90's ranger, the previous owner had done just that... but didn't put the cut-out section back in... it was missing, had to be careful that things in the bed were bigger than the hole, or they fell out when they slid around... and it was cut about 6" bigger than it needed to be in every direction.

Bedliner or mat? There's always a few listed on craigslist around here anyway...

Doesn't currently have either. I'm not in a big hurry to do anything right now to the bed. I do like the looks of the rhino liner and herculiner products.

I was thinking for the ranger with a giant hole in the bed in dieselcrawler's post... ;)

Gotcha! The truck is now at the mechanic. He's not sure if he can get the speedometer fixed, which is the main thing I need fixed. I also need the rotors replaced, which could get costly. Hopefully all of the repairs won't break the bank.

You're worried about speeding in your dually farm truck?? Slow down. You're driving a big heavy old truck. If you're keeping up with kids in civics, then you're going too fast. What's the rush? Especially if you've got a load or a trailer, just keep your foot out of that 454 once you get rolling and you should be fine.
