This is my fathers old farm truck that we use on the farm and to move equipment. I took the alternator to autozone and had it tested. They said it was not charging, which did not surprize me. It was the original alternator . I replaced it with a rebuit one ,but it still didnt charge. I took it back and had it tested ,but they said it was ok. I checked all the fuzes ,they were all good. I read that it could be the fuseable link ,but were is it and how do you test it? I'm stumped at this point.

I dealt with the same thing on a F350 of a boating buddies. I can't remember precisely but it was in a wiring harness along the firewall from what I remember.

Was the battery checked?

That's what I was wondering as well.

Also, are those internally regulated or externally? I can't remember.

thanks for the replies.Yes I did have the battery checked and its ok . I'll look around the firewall I'm not sure what one looks like. I've never ran into this problem before. I might have to tke it to a shop ,I prefer to fix things myself . thanks again

These models also have an external voltage regulator. Take that in and have it checked too.

is the voltmeter saying low? the battery light on? have you actually put a meter on the battery while running to see what the output is?

yes the voltmeter in the truck is saying about 9 volts . I checked it with a meter. Fully carged battey said 12.36volts put it in the truck and started it checked the battery while it was running 12.16 voits at battery and at alternator . the longer it runs the lower the volts go. shut it off and it wont start until I recharge the battery thanks for the replies
