990 foot throttle

Ah it seems that new 990 motor has a better fuel system than mine and should be quiter to boot. I hope I get to drive that new one at work.

I will say that while it is touchy at first you get used to it. I use the foot throttle 90% of the time and I've gotten very good at it. The only time I use the hand throttle is for mowing.

Well, I've had the tractor (990) long enough to put on 14 hrs. I am getting used to the foot throttle, but it still is very touchy. Everything else is great. I like the exhaust much better than the old, upright style. No problems to report, at least not yet!

That is good to hear. I'm still 2 1/2 or 3 weeks away from getting my new 990, so the more positive feedback about the new model I hear, the better I like it!

Here's a couple more questions for you 990 owners out there.

1. Have you ever had issues with the lift capacity of the 430 loader? IMHO the 990 should have gotten the 460 loader /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. My only loader to date has been a homemade job on a Ford 9N and I'm sure it's lift capacity is much less than 1000 lbs. The 430 will obviously be better than what I'm used to, but I still can't help thinking the 430 might still be a bit "wimpy" /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

2. What does your joystick look like? Most all the pictures of a 990 that I have seen show a long lever going down through the floor (or near the floor anyway). The actual valve is presumably mounted on or near the transmission. I have also, however, seen 1 picture somewhere that looked like a different style joystick. It only showed the very top of the stick, however. The one and only 990 that I have seen in person did not have a loader on it, and I didn't pay much attention at the time, but I could swear that there was a sort of pedestal coming up from the floor or fender and the valve was mounted near arm level with a shorter stick on it. Is my memory playing tricks on me? Anyone care to post a picture? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also have 14.7 hours on my 990. I love it besides the fact that is was split. I do have it now and you can't tell. I have not had any problems with about the 1300 pound lift capacity of the 430 loader if I remember right. I don't do heavy loader work at all and I only take it on and take it off one time a year to clear the driveway of snow in the 2 year I have had the loader. I do wish it had the 460 though. You can see the loader valve if you look at the tractor close enough through the cracks in the metal.

Here is what my Joystick looks like:

I don't know how to get the pic inserted. I cant save it as a valid file but you can view it from the link. All 990s have this joystick new and old. The only difference you may notice is the exhaust, different seat suspension, and re tuned motor.

All the 70 series and 90 series have touchy foot throttles but they work well.

I've never run into the limit with the stuff I've tried to lift. A 59" bucket heaped with dirt isn't enough to stall it, and neither are 20 foot logs. I haven't tried to move any boulders with it though... might be easiest to hit the limit there since they are so dense.
