A bad day tractoring.........

Dan.... I have looked at these pictures for a while now, and the only thing that I can think of is to putting a small retaining wall between the building and the sloped side yard. Grade the left side of the ground away from the wall. This will stop some of the water that is coming toward the building from the lawn area. The balance of the water that falls on the stone should be picked up by the stone and run away from the building. I would try to put a pipe in there if possible and put large commercial 6" gutters and downspouts on the roof and direct the downspouts away from the building.

those things are in planning and financing stages.......gutters will be on as soon as someone that really wants to do the work shows up. Have given the job to 2 contractors, neither of which decided to come around and do the work. The size you mentioned is what I am doing. I think the one on the "high" side will actually run all the way over to the low side before dumping.

I have thought of the retaining wall, but think that rip rap on the hillside will do for now anyway. Between the barn and the shed will be a small retaining wall.

As for the area, I am thinking that when it dries out again, I am going to put in a pipe, but run it past the current beginning of the pipe in the ground, to about middle ways.
There is not enough water to flood it, but there is too much to not do something.

What would digging a trench, and then putting some number 2's in it do, will the water go out then? I think the trouble now is that the water can not move out fast enough, and just soaks in. I can do this much easier, and it might prepare the area for concrete someday, which will be done all the way around the building.

thanks Junkman, your wisdom and willingness to share is appreciated.

I believe he is talking about #2 gauge gravel, 1/2" to 1" average size.

Next came the riprap to control the erosion.........and I dont have to use the trimmer to cut the grass here now. 10 tons, delivered, hauled, and placed, some by hand.

I know now why criminals hated the rock pile for punishment.........this stinks, even with a tractor to help

Here we are almost done, and done for the day. Still have to make a straight line at the bottom and put the top diversion/directional barrier in, but that is what other days are for

Looks good...... better you placing that then me. When it comes to rocks and snow, I have one belief....... G-d put them there, let him or someone else take it away..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I have moved so many rocks this past summer that if I don't ever handle another rock in my lifetime, I will consider myself fortunate.
