I'm jealous. The Penguin told the internet improvement committee they should work on faster access speeds. Used tech tech terms like symmetrical up down speeds and everything. No significant funding in his budget though.

Maine was working on internet speed and coverage but The Penguin took a five year time-out to focus on really important stuff.

The Penguin?! Has to be some derogatory term for Obama....
Well he delivered, in VT as promised, can't speak to your issues in Maine. (And I do own property there too - full disclosure).

I wish I could just get 10% of that.

With moving, I just went from 20M (with ability to go up to 50M) roadrunner, down to 6M DSL:mur:

I really wanted TWC. It was cheaper than my current Direct TV and DSL setup, with faster internet. I am only 1300' off the main state route down a little side road. They said $19,500 and they could do it for me:laughing:

ONLY $19.5K?! At that bargain price, get two!:confused2:

Yeah, yeah. I've got Hughes Net baby! I actually typed this back in November and you are just now reading it.

No cell service at my house, propane no natural gas.

Flip side no building permits, burn permits, nothing permits. Not many neighbors. I can shoot off my back porch and nobody minds.

November! Now that's funny!
If you lived in VT you can carry with NO carry permit, IIRC. And shoot off your front porch.

Your behind the game. I have had one gig from 2 providers in Rural MN for three years. Trial fro 10 GIG starting February. This is a low latency connection with direct peering to many. Netflix CDN Google CDn and Akamai CDN on network.

Did I mention it is ring fed to my house!! Well the last 1000 feet for the drop is collapsed. We ahve had fiber to the home since 2004. People are spoiled. They have never known slow internet.

Your monthly cost for your dropped service is?

Regardless of allocated bandwidth spectrums...downstream feeds are limited by the capacity of the upstream pipes that www servers are capable of...i.e., you can't downstream data any faster than a server can upstream it...

Also, regardless of the available bandwidth via fiber optic pipes...Ethernet cable (i.e., cat 5-6 etc) has limitations...likewise (and more so) if you rely on economical wireless protocols...

And, so?:confused2:

I can only imagine how may video games and **** videos that kind of speed will allow you to download! congrats.

Imagine! The installer said if I had 30 people at my house all downloading full HD movies, gaming and whatever could otherwise lock-up a regular connection there would be NO impact on my line whatsoever.
We strung 160' of Cat? from the fiber controller inside my garage to my fiber modem.

Here's just one speed test result I ran: ping: 3ms, down:146.05, up: 113.37 for $35/mo. Boom! Shakalaka, BOOM!
