Many of you here have been giving great advice on understanding and fixing my old tractor. I wanted to post about a bit of progress.

I FINALLY got the stuck PTO shift lever removed and replaced which means I was able to get this tractor fitted with the 5' brush hog and get a little clean up started. This is the first real opportunity I've had to work this machine since I bought it. The tractor handled the cutter reasonably well. The brush hog isn't setup for my machine so there were a few problems. To make it work correctly I need to lower the lift pins on the cutter itself. As it is, even with my 3PT hitch raised all the way to the top my machine does not lift the cutter totally off the ground. But generally it did okay. My machine has some quirks but I think they are things I can learn to live with or learn to work around.

So thanks to everyone for their input, suggestions, and support. Here are a couple photo taken this evening after calling it a day.

BTW, my new loader control valve came yesterday. I've got a bunch of plumbing and some welding to do before getting that functional. I need to purchase some new hoses and figure out exactly how all that's going to fit together but hopefully that will be the next progress installment I'll have to share.

Things seem to be falling into place. I'm glad you got a Shifter lever and able to move onto the Loader Valve,

Thanks. It's a reasonably well built brush-hog. It might be a bit large for my YM240. It's setup for a larger machine and I couldn't get it hooked up such that I could lift it off the ground. It seemed like the lift arms and the top link were locked in some configuration that limited the lift range. I've never had that problem before. I think/hope the solution is to lower the lift pins on the brushhog. It has 3 or 4 locations where they can be stored. I didn't want to get in to that so I left it and just worked without being able to lift it very high.

I see what your talking about. I believe your top link is way to long. Happens on my BH. if I extend it to long. It actually keeps the rear wheel from lifting. looking at you lower arms, It looks as though you only going to be able to lift the cutting height a few inches so there is no way the Rear wheel will lift. Here's my Old Int. BH. and were the Top Link Attaches it doesn't pivot forward only backwards lifting the Rear Wheel off the ground. There isn't anyway to lower the Bottom Pins to allow for more lifting?

I think you're right about the top link being too long. I think the solution will be to lower the top link connection point frame and the lift pins. If I could get all that to drop about 10" (which I think I can because there are additional holes already in the BH frame), I could then shorten my top link and have some room to lift.

This was mostly a test and I just wanted to give the old girl some work. Now that the front pump is confirmed working I can put hte hood back on! I guess she's a keeper. Still some issues to work out- like jumping out of gear and I need to replace one of the brake turnbuckles since it's not adjustable. I'm slowly building a cart at Hoye's.

The hood has been returned. I removed it weeks ago when I was first tyring to figure out what was going on with the front hydro pump. It's buried below the battery and a pain to get to so I removed the hood so I could remove the battery and battery tray so I could get to the pump itself. That turned out not to be useful/necessary. I never could identify the pump make/model. Now that I know the pump works and intend to use it for the FEL, I put the hood back on.

Once the hood is off, it's a slippery slope...

I couldn't tell you why but that is a vertical air filter. I'm not sure I like it. It's mounted to the FEL frame and sorta crowds the entry/exit. It's just begging to be treated like a handle which I'm sure wouldn't be a good idea.

The older ones had a verticle air filter. But that one i do not beleive is factory? I think they were right beside the motor on the side and were not that high?

I think that's the same air cleaner as on this Ebay YM240D. Maybe it was an option along with the OEM loader.
