Is the replacement of the A/C electric clutch a job I should attempt, or should I leave this to the professionals?
I understand you need a special removal and install tool - where would one find these tools. The tractor is
a 2002 Kubota L5030. Thanks.

On my APU on my Semi , It actually ended up being cheaper to buy a whole new compressor , install it , then just have somebody recharge the system . There was nothing
special that I seen , other than a large snap ring inside holding it to the compressor shaft , but the the bearings had went out in mine , thus it was already flopping around .:confused2:

Get the model number and brand name off of the plate on the compressor and check at auto supply houses on replacement costs. Then price a re-built or re-manufactured compressor with the clutch already installed.

Auto Supply Houses, O'Rileys, Auto Zone, Advance Store rent tools as well as some Rental Facilities. It takes a special threaded tool to screw into the end of the clutch pack to pull or remove the clutch pack on most compressors. An air impact wrench is also nice to use to remove the nut.

One great big advantage of just replacing the clutch pack is the system was not opened and will not have to be vacuumed and refrigerant oil added.

Now: What leads you to believe the clutch pack is bad. The compressor not activating or what? The low refrigerant cut out will prevent the compressor from starting if the refrigerant is low. Is a noise coming from the compressor when the AC is turned on? Is the belt tight or is it slipping and not turning the compressor when the high side head pressure increases?

Good luck.

Gator - The clutch is just flopping around and rattling - might be the bearings?

lol yep that will do er... I would replace just the clutch since the system stays sealed. Nothing special about a tractor a/c compressor, so if you can find a brand/model of the compressor you could probably search and maybe find how to DIY.

post the brand/model or even better a pic of the label and if possible front of the compressor. I bet we can help.
