At 6 pm on December 21, I was on duty with the ambulance service where I work. I had just completed a patient transfer to a neighboring county when my phone pager activated. It was my oldest daughter paging me to tell me to come home because my wife was very sick. I headed toward home and called to speak to my wife of almost 23 years and she was in so much pain she could hardly talk. I picked up the radio mic to send another ambulance to my home ahead of me, and about that time, all three other units were dispatched to a bad head on collision. We lit the ambulance up and made a 32 mile trip in 15 minutes (four lane). A quick assessment led me to believe she had a brain bleed.
At the local hospital, a ct scan confirmed my fears, and we then transferred her to a Huntington W Va. hospital. There she was diagnosed quickly with a 9 mm
aneurism that had ruptured, but the bleeding was almost stopped. She underwent a Neuro-Radiological Intervention that took only half the time that was estimated, the procedure was successful, and she got to come home yesterday. I am truly thankful, and pray that God's grace surrounds those who were not as fortunate. Merry Christmas to all!
