Final Outcome! I'll keep it short.

I spoke with my Agco regional rep in Atlanta. I told him the entire story. He apologized that my purchasing dealer was no longer in business and I was having this issue with my local dealer. He said that this is not how AGCO wants its dealers representing or servicing their products. He said that my backhoe was still in its 1 year warranty and the hose is covered. He said that it does work like an automobile and any MF dealer can do warranty work on my tractor. He recommended that I contact two other dealers in my area and speak with them about my situation and decide on one to work with. He wanted me let him know who I decided on so that he could contact them as well. I did that, and decided on one. He had me remove the hose and have my New Holland dealer make a new one. I emailed him the receipt and he is giving me store credit. Both dealers where great to talk with and more than willing to work with me. One even willing to ship it to there closest service department 130 miles away from me for future service work!

I don't care if it's a $1000 part or a $5 part. If I didn't break it, and it shouldn't have broken, and its covered under warranty the manufacture should cover the part. I do know and understand that not everyone agrees, and I respect that. On the lighter side I did expect to get a little more emotional support from the group LOL. I'm also not ashamed to say that I am that guy some individuals described. I do my homework when I purchase something of significant value for a specific purpose. Especially when I have never operated anything bigger than a riding mower and I'm about to use it to transform my property with it, and plan to maintain it, and have it for a long time. That said I do not always, and did not in this instance go with the cheapest price. There is more than just price to a large purchase in my opinion. I am not one to just decide to buy something and walk into a local shop and buy it after a conversation with a salesman. I'm going to check out my options throughly prior to making a decision.

I have attached two pics of the view off my front porch from the day I bought the house and a pic I took a month ago. I have quite a bit more done since that photo and you can only see about half of the work area.

This isn't emotional suport but I do think principles and customer service should still matter somewhere. The seller sets the price and the buyer decides if its a price that he or she wants to accept. Period. It sounds like that happened here. In fact, it happens all over the country every day in a capitalistic society. The customer's choice (and it is that,,,the customer's choice) shouldn't impact his ability to get warranty work done matter no matter if the part costs $5 or $500. I understand the dealer wanting to look out for his existing customer base but how in the heck will he ever grow that customer base with interactions like this with potential customers. I mean this guy will buy somethjing else at some time for this tractor or another but I suspect it will not be here.

Also, I've heard that "we don't make any money on the warranty" stuff before but is that the customer's fault or the arrangement between the dealer and the manufacturer? I'm sure dealers make money on sales of tractors, implements, routine services, and future break downs that occur outside the warranty period. But I doube any of these scenarios will occur for this dealer and customer. The dealer has a point but could have handled it differently if he was interested in any future buisness. If he does this long enough then he may find himself in the same boat as the other dealer who is now long gone. Just an opinion like everyone elses. Good luck.

Glad you got it all sorted out.

A bit off topic, but it seems a shame to cut down some pretty nice hardwoods just for a nice view of the neighbors deck.

glad it is resolved. you should probably add the hydraulic hose protector onto the new hose to prevent it from happening again from the scraping. you can find these at any hose supply/hydraulic store. simple to install

Glad it got resolved...

Just a comment on those that think it is just like buying a vehicle and then getting it serviced somewhere else. This situation is not like that at all.

The OP pitted the dealers against one another, knew they were friends. Basically told the local dealer, "I am not doing business with you". When someone describes buying a vehicle at one dealer and having it serviced somewhere else because they moved, the new dealer is trying to win the business, they did not lose it once already to another dealer on the original purchase (not normally at least)..

I'm glad things worked out for you. I will share with you my experience with my local MF dealer. It's a long post.

I bought a used MF 124 baler from my Uncle. The baler had a bale thrower on it that I had no interest in using as my intentions were to install a chute on the back and pull a wagon behind the baler and load directly on the wagon when baling. I went to my nearby MF dealer to order the two bale chute parts needed. When I arrived at the dealer I noticed that the dealership had a MF 124 that they were parting out. I asked the parts guy about purchasing the used chute off the baler that they were parting out. The parts guy asked the owner about selling the parts. I was told the owner said that they were reserving the used parts for their "regular" customers.
No problem. I told the parts guy to go ahead and order the parts new. After looking up the parts I was told that one of parts was no longer available but the other part was. I told the parts guy to order the one part and I would have my local machine shop fabricate the other part. At this same time I order a kicker wheel for a used V-rake that I had purchased from a neighbor. This all took place in the winter months so I wasn't in a hurry to get the parts.

About a month later I stopped by the dealer to check on my parts (they hadn't called). After doing some checking the parts guys said that the baler part had not come in, adding that the part was no longer available. I asked about the kicker wheel for my rake. He told me that they stocked those and I could pick that up at that time. I again asked the parts guy if they would reconsider selling me the parts off the salvage baler. He called the owner and the owner agreed to sell me the parts but I would have to pay full new retail price for the parts. No problem....I paid full retail new price for the two used baler chute parts and did not complain. I also paid for the kicker wheel and took all parts with me when leaving.

The point of this long post is that this MF dealership lost any possiblity for gaining me as a "regular" customer.

When I was researching to purchase a new tractor I didn't even consider looking at a MF tractor.

I am looking forward to the delivery of my new John Deere tractor.

Glad you got it all sorted out.

A bit off topic, but it seems a shame to cut down some pretty nice hardwoods just for a nice view of the neighbors deck.

You can't possibly tell by the pic but I had 70 trees cut down from around the house 2 month after we bought it. Of those 70, 7 were hardwood. There rest was hemlock. They stood 2 to 3 times as high as the house and the 4 year old house was covered in mold and mildew on the outside siding from it being so damp all the time and getting no sun. I'll agree the view isn't the best but with some strategic planting when I'm finished, it should be better. And no more mold and mildew with all the sunshine we get on the house now.

Getting more sun is a good reason to remove trees. You've done a lot of grading with your tractor! It's nice to see some pictures of work done with these GC utility machines. I was thinking of posting a bunch of "results" pictures after we finish the landscaping around our new house in a month or so. (I'll be sure to reduce the file size of the pictures.) My tractor has touched many, many aspects of the outdoor work in our project. I don't anticipate much more digging in the years ahead, but there will always be snow removal, driveway grading, and garden rototilling.

wow- it goes to show that whenever you get a local issue, calling the home office will get the squeaky wheel greased. You SHOULDN'T have to do this at that level, if you buy a national brand you should be able to get service ANYwhere...

Let me guess you bought the tractor from Devon Lane and now Northwood Power won't help you?
**** I live in Northwood and my Masseys are from Devon and Fouriners.
