The slabs weigh between two fifty and four hundred lbs.

All the work with them once we get down to the lower level (upper level of the walk way) will be done with leverage and luck.

It will be very intersting to see how that leverage is going to work. I think I'd be inclied (no pun intended) to place the rock slabs on a pallet with big wheels and use a winch to slowly lower down the pallet using the winch to let out the line. Of couse I never operated a winch so I don't know if they do slowly let out a line or if they only pull in a line.

Harvey there are different attitudes in our small little Holland country as well... I personally am not a very adaptible person, and my sister was manager of a bank office until last week, but was fired because the big chief (a new one from the western concrete jungle) thought that she couldnt manipulate persons in order to get done what she would want to get done... my sister replied that "manipulating people" is a dirty word, and that it doesnt exist in her dictionary...
I have started a new job last week, made some jokes about the boss' mistakes right at the job interview, the boss laughed so i knew that i want to work here... It works just better if you dont have to weigh your words on a golden scale, so you can concentrate on your job... It's so much easier to work with the Saxonian peoples nature..

Harvey, at the end of the day, count all your fingers. That looks like a finger-pincher for sure. Lot's of opportunities to get caught in the wrong spot. Be careful!

The rocks are heavy. What I originally thought we, son and I, could handle by ourselves I now am having a couple of other guys from the engineering company help us out.

The day started out with the rocks arriving.

The pallets were running out at almost four thousand pounds. Iris (my tractor) has about a fifteen hundred pound capacity.

We were able to remove some of the temporary fence along the neighbor's driveway. That allowed me to bring in the stones one at a time and place them on a tree dolly (hand truck designed to move container grown trees).

Then it was very slowly moving the rocks down the plywood walkway they'd laid down.

We've been in the middle of a drought for some time now. So we appreciate any rain we can get. Yesterday was one of those days when they predicted scattered showers.

The job is forty two miles from my house. My house Texas got a little over an inch yesterday. The job got a couple of showers while we were there. One of those showers made the plywood walkway a little to slick to operate on safely.

We got the fifty stone down the hill to the pool level. It was a very tough day. The men from the engineering firm and my son put in an extra hard one. It wasn't too hard on them getting the stone down. But it was tough coming back up that hill each time with the tree dolly.

All day long it looked like we were going to be rained out. But the weather held and good luck was on our side.

I tried to put one stone on the steel framework and manuever it into place by myself.

That didn't work. It took four of us to pick it up off the ground and put it back on the steel rails.

But we did get the corner stone picked out and placed. You have to start somewhere, right?

Harv you sure do love a challenge. Watching your projects over the years I always thought how much I would enjoy and what a learning experience it would be to work with you for a few weeks. After seeing this one I have decided I am too old and will just have to die ignorant.

MarkV I agree, Harve do you have any easy jobs? Looks like it could be a wild ride on wet plywood and a rock thats heavier than I am.

Harvey do you use the cart to roll down those stones over the steel rails ???
Do you use some kind of safety device on the cart, like a rock climbers rope brake ? ...If it was my job, i would hate to have one slip away over those steel rails... you never know how much speed they would be able to make untill they hit a tree downhill... ;)
