We're in Hardee County, southwest (I believe) of Orlando. About sixty miles due east of Tampa.

We have a twelve acre grove of early Hamlins, mainly juice oranges. But there's a real possiblility that within a couple years it may be a fond memory. We have been attacked by tristasia (sp?) or wet root, and have lost record numbers of trees. We are not doing resets, we're not set up for it and the cost for revamping the micro jet system would be astornomical. I hate to lose it, but it does less every year.

We sell them wholesale to a buyer in town who buys from the smaller groves and then trucks them to Tropicana or one of the other large processors. I have a friend who has a small grove and she does gift boxes and ships out of state. They stumbled onto a gold mine, thier grove has several tress of any variety you can imagine and she does a thirving business.

here's a link to some pics if you'd like to see the place.....

Yes, you're right, and to think only an hour away white sand beaches and high rises. By the way, your marinade sounds yummy! Not to mention simple, which is mu'y good for me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I will try it this weekend!

Roy,

Yes, if its just inside your home a shotgun is a good choice. But if you live on a properrty how fast can you get to the shotgun? A bit of a pain to carry around.
410 will work at point blank, but so will a 22LR. However, most cops don't carry a 410 or a 22 for a reason. Just to marginal at almost any range.

The motif for one to use a 410 is that the 20 or 12 is to much recoil? But remeber its just for emergencies not a days worth of shooting clays.

If I need to defend my life against armed instuder(s) I want more than enough gun to get the job done, not something that should work if I get close enough.

Outside the house, it's normally a .38 Spl revolver or a small 9mm Semi-Auto in my pocket. That's about all I can do, since I wear bib overalls when I'm working outside (no dedicated gun belt like the cops use...yet, anyway). I keep thinking about getting one of those across the chest holsters like handgun hunters use to carry in the woods. That would be for my Taurus Tracker .357 Magnum (nice revolver, BTW). The across the chest holsters aren't that expensive...just haven't done it yet.
But, inside the house, the shotgun is the better choice, IMHO.

Speaking of Quality control Taurus could Use some of That. I kileed three of them before I threw in the towel and went back to Smith. After I shoot them a bit the cylinders skip. A three shot revolver is not much use /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif But then I do a lot of shooting. I have not had that problem, or any for that matter with the Smiths. In the autos I like the Kimber 45. The 9 is a bit anemic for self defense. Well at least to Tim Taylor...More Power ! Dave

LOL, that's always a good way to start an argument! I really like 9mm. The right round is every bit as effective as a .45 ACP (got two 1911's too, BTW).

You're right about Taurus though! I had to send two (of the three Tauruses I own) back to the factory. I've always had good luck with the repaired guns, however. Anyone who buys a Taurus should put at least 200-300 rounds through 'em ASAP. Of course, that applies to any gun...

However, if they do break, Taurus does a nice job with a quick (2-3 week) turn around. My buddy's S&W took almost 8 months for a factory repair!
