The come-along should work fine, but have enough other chain and strap to be far away where you are operating it. and make sure you hook to something solid that wont give either. Like another tree. And the lower you can get on your "anchor" tree, the better.

And once she starts to go, get the heck away from the come along. It can whip around pretty good and cause lots of pain.

One question. If the tree is rotten, is it usable for saw logs? But a come along hooked to a solid tree well back from the cut one should bring it down. But always have a clear path of escape. Just in case.

It's dead and rotten a the centre at the bottom but as you go up in the Around the 7 foot mark its gets solid and good for sawlogs we want to stay away from cutting live stuff because we have lots of dead standing stuff

If you are not going to use the first few feet, making a couple of cuts on the butt might just drop it. Even if it doesn't, it should make it easier to pull down with the come along. Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm going up there Tuesday and trying to take it down Wednesday I'll post some pictures something about cutting some sections out from the bottoms scares me

My question was just to ask if my come along was strong enough that's it I usually just drag them out but I can't so I need to do it a new way I was wondering if someone had more experience then me with come alongs

I think the come along should do it if it is indeed 2 tons rated. Thats 4000lbs of pull. In my experience, it would take a tractor a tad heavier to equal that drawbar pull (not accounting for jerking or momentum if thats your cup of tea when pulling).

So your come-along should do as well as a 5000lb tractor, which is about what my L3400 would do and I pull trees frequently. It will be slower, but should work.

I've taken 2-3 foot lengths off the bottom of hung up trees before, I prefer that over a come along, less going on and with clear exit paths I feel it is safer.

That said if you don't have experience I think it's good advice to wait until you can get your equipment in there and use it to remove it safely. Whatever you decide, please be careful. I've dealt with a lot of white pine that has the core of the butt rotted out, it's surprising the tree still stands on it. With your tree leaning on it I would be concerned with strapping a come-along to it and pulling with any force, things may turn sour on you in a hurry.
