Jerry G - I got four crop shields from my Dad but they were for a JD and do not fit. Do you have a picture of your crop shields? Is that knife looking like thing in the middle of my cultivator a shield? My Dad did not think it was a shield as he remembers.

Don: First back a few posts - Ferguson vs. Dearborn (Ford)? Assuming the red paint is original, it's probably Dearborn. Fergies were originally grey.

Then the knife thing in the middle front. Not a crop shield/fender. It is more of a guide to dampen side-to-side movement from minor changes in the terrain. The one my dad owned had a coulter instead while my uncle's had the knife like your pic. Don't know if that was a running change in mfg or an optional choice. The crop shields that I am familiar with were sheet metal about 6-7" high by 24-30" long hanging from an iron strap arrangement that allowed up/down and front/back movement but not side-to side. One shield on each side of each row. Usually removed once corn was about 6" high as there was then less danger of covering the plants. Wish I had a picture. My brother still has the old cultivator but I haven't seen the shields around his place for years.

Fredex, TNhobbyfarmer and JerryG, here is a picture of the JD shields that do not fit on my cultivator. There is a 45 degree notch that fits on the square bar of the JD. My dad said the u-bolts that hold them on are missing. If I can see a picture of the ones that fit my cultivator I can make them. It would be a good reason for me to get a plasma cutter. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
