A little disappointed with Kubota

Yeah, verily... in the very unlikely chance that we have not beaten this dead horse 6 or 7 times in the first 180 some posts ... the most likely culprit (with due respect) is the owner who, like me many times, failed to check for tightness after 50 hrs usage or whatever amount. Chances are better than 50/50 he just let it run loose without knowing it for a lot of hours. And unless I missed 1 or 2 of these 180+ posts the only damage was some elongated holes in the disks ?? Crap. We wasted more manpower talking about it than the holes were worth. He can probably put on some large washers, tighten them down and forget the whole thing.

Amen..

This kind of got off track (as usual, lol). The bolts came yesterday. Unfortunately the belleville washers were the wrong style. I asked for reusable ones but the ones they sold me were one time only so I returned them. I just used grade 8 washers. On the good wheel I took a couple picture. The paint is missing where the lock washer was sliding against the disk. You can also see where the split in the washer has dug into the disk. The holes are still perfectly round. In fact the paint on the inside of the holes is still there. I tried to remove it with a pick to make sure it was still stuck on, it is. So while it was moving it must have been moving slowly.

This is the backside of the wheel. The bolt Kubota uses with just the lock washer is the one that's flush. The ones sticking out slightly are the studs. The longer ones (one with a nut) are the bolts I bought.

So, the wheels were not rotating on the hub and the missing paint around the bolt holes could have been from being installed and removed a couple of times with an impact wrench with a sloppy socket...

No, they were moving. The bolts on the right wheel (the one in that photo) had never been loosened up since the day the wheels were installed on the tractor by the dealer. The steel would have been rusty if it was just damage from 9 years ago.

If they were moving, they would have chewed up the paint on the inside of at least one of the holes. When I get home, I can get a picture of the push bumper on our BX2660 which is put on and taken off in the spring and fall (has to come off to install the blade), it has very similar marks around each hole from the impact socket, but no rust to speak of.

If the backside nut is the preferred solution to loosening bolts, the two studs could also be replaced.

It's my perception that two studs are only used to speed up installation.

Have to agree. The paint in the hole is untouched. Either there was no movement at all, or it was so small the undersized fastener just rocked back and forth inside the hole without making contact anywhere. I find that highly unlikely.

The Lock washer could have splayed out on one side making it look like movement? They fail that way sometimes.

It looks like the wheels were tossed on close but not seated, and the fasteners were zipped on with a gun. The lock washers snugged and the surface paint cracked, then the wheel was slightly moved to seat fully (washers moved slightly) and the fasteners were fully torqued which cracked more paint. That's my take on this since there was no wheel movement and the wheel was still seized to the hub. This is the wheel we saw in the first pictures when there were suggestions that the wheels were cracked, holes were egged oblong, and the centers should be replaced, and Kubota should be held responsible. In the end it was all cosmetic on this wheel. What's the bad side look like?
