A little legal advice

   / A little legal advice #31
My dad had his will prepared 16 years ago. The real estate was split between my sister and me, the house and other farm left in the estate. I was identified as the POA. Year before last we had to tell the hospital and then nursing facility who was the POA with documentation. He recovered and lived another year. When he was admitted to the hospital the last time the same situation again occurred. He had a DNR in the will. Pop did it right. I have no regrets.

"An attorney can suggest a path through a maze that seems incomprehensible"

Exactly, a good attorney, like a good mechanic is invaluable. Congratulations if you have found either in our current buy your credentials culture. Certainly, there are situations when you need both, but "get a lawyer" for every situation is as foolish as only the dealership can correctly "tune" your engine. Managing health care is an oil change, managing an estate should be left to the qualified, hopefully the lawyer you end up with meets your expectations.

This is not what you asked, but I’ll throw it out, just in case it’s relevant to your situation.

With my father, we had MUCH better luck with home health care than any sort of facility. The indifference of the staff was disgusting! He was in misery, as a gaggle of staff sat chatting at the desk area. It was much better having one worker dedicated to one patient. He was also much happier being in his own home.
