A National Ban on Bowhunting Deer?

Danny--

Interesting observation about our buck, and I don't have any reason to doubt what you say--thanks for the information.

I agree completely that the fundamental issue is the ability and responsibility of the individual hunter (really, that was my primary point), and also agree that it would be great if everybody going into the woods with a lethal weapon had to demonstrate some proficiency; interestingly, here in Ohio they imposed boat license requirements for youngsters recently, and the sky did not fall in. I had marksmanship and firearms safety at Scout camp about a million years ago, and it's hard to imagine any legitimate objection--except the administration and expense of the program--to requiring some kind of demonstration of competence before folks start stalking game.

I can't resist this....... The same rules should apply to getting married and having children. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Government is already too much into our lives and this issue is just going to give them more control over our lives if it gets a toe hold. I can remember when a certain political party was for individual rights and today, they are are the very party that is trying to take those individual rights away from us. Unfortunately, any time a controversial movement gets started, there is a politician that is ready to jump on the bandwagon if he/she believes that it will get them vote, even if it is only from the group that is pushing the issue, if that group represents a significant number of member.

Hi
Anyone know what position the NRA takes if any on bow hunting or the ban of it? If you already have several hand guns and have a certificate for each why do you have to pay a fee and wait 7 days for a background check before you can purchase a handgun? I could see the need for a first time purchase. I agree you should have to be qualified to get married and have kids. and maybe it should be based on the couples ability to provide for them.

The press release from the USSA (US Sportsmans Alliance) was sent to me by the NRA's ILA division (I get a weekly update at my office from them). Based on additional information from the ILA, I would say that the NRA is firmly behind all hunting sports, including bow hunting. However, the NRA also expressed concern that if bowhunters and gun hunters do not unite then the Humane Society & the Fund for Animal will make some headway on banning bow hunting.

( As far as enforcing it, that would be done just like any other law is enforced. For example, if you're out hunting without a hunting license, you get fined. You wouldn't need any more manpower to enforce it than you have already.

In my state a landowner is not required to have a license, how would you enforce it for a landowner ?

The landowner no-license rule is determined by words on a piece of paper. Change the words on a piece of paper to require licenses by landowners - Presto!

You think that would happen that easy ?? I pay taxes on my land and I should be exempt from buying a hunting license to hunt on my own land..

You know, it kind of strikes me as funny that anyone would think that such a ban would be limited to bow hunting!

Wait till we elect our first vegetarian president! The you'll see what kind of bans can be put in place... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Guns will be be for shooting paper targets...bows will shoot arrows with suction cups on the end...Restaurants will have both "no smoking" and "no animal products" sections.

Wasp spray and mouse poison will be banned from the hardware store shelves...

Thanks to Bob, it is all starting to become clear... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Stock up on leather shoes and gloves now! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But those who said it will never happen are right. Not within most of our lifetimes, that is... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Never say never...too risky...

In Indiana you have to have a concealed carry permit to avoid the 7 day wait. If you have this you can cash and carry a weapon covered by the permit. Shotguns are still cash and carry, and all guns must be registered.

There is no such thing as a certificate for each one, other than the registration

In Indiana . . . all guns must be registered.

Huh? If that is true, then I am in some serious trouble! When, where and how do you register a gun in Indiana?

Interesting thing about the Indiana Concealed Carry permit application process. . . if you are of sound mind, without a criminal record, etc, then the state law REQUIRES your local police chief (or your sheriff if you are outside of a city or town) to issue the CCW permit.
