A National Ban on Bowhunting Deer?

Let me clarify, when you purchase a gun from a dealer, they must be registered at the point of purchase. The carry permit comes from the most local police or sheriff agency, mine would be from Georgetown, IN sheriffs office. I dont know what they are good for, but they are required for sale. Most auctions I go to also require them, and most have a dealer on site or lined up for the guns to go to. If you have a permit, you can take it with you, if the dealer is present.

Danny, I am not sure about the registration you are talking about but I think it is an application/background data check that must be checked by the state police for criminal record. I believe that when you purchase a gun in Indiana the purchase application must be destroyed by the state within 30 days of the purchase (I'm about 99.9% sure of that). I know that there is no record of your gun purchases that is kept on file for future reference (I'm 100% sure of that). And, as private gun sales are perfectly legal in Indiana between individuals, there is no record of any kind for those transactions.

That is the reason for the "registration", backgound check, but I believe it is ONLY on high power rifles, pistols. Not sure about it on shotguns, and .22 rifles. Have not bought one in many years. I know that with a carry permit, the "registration" is still required, but the permit covers the requirements and you can take with. My permit was issued by the county sheriff's office, but I later found out that Georgetown should have been the agency to go to.

You think that would happen that easy ?? I pay taxes on my land and I should be exempt from buying a hunting license to hunt on my own land.. )

I don't know where you live, but in CT, paying real estate taxes doesn't give you any special rights to do anything on your land except to live on it. If you want to build on it, you need a permit. If you want to drill a well, you need a permit. If you want to install a swimming pool, shed, deck, septic system, or anything else, you need a permit. The only thing that you don't need a permit to do on your own land is die on it. If you want to hunt on your own land, you must own 10 acres and get a state permit. There is no charge for this permit.

In my state a landowner is not required to have a license, how would you enforce it for a landowner ?

Wouldn't be no need to, since you're on your own property. Same as driving without a license on your own property, with no tags, driving drunk, unsafe vehicle...

Just don't wonder too far off course /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Bob, I think Danny is confusing registration with the form 4473. This form is kept by the seller until he/she sells the business or goes out of business. In either case all forms are turned over to the ATF. This form holds all the information of the gun sell, in case law enforcement needs to track a certain gun.

Take a look at Handgun restrictions. They stated lcoal.

FYI Bob in Vermont there are no requirements for a permit to carry a concealed handgun. We can carry one loaded/concealed at anytime, but not into banks, courts.

Junkman,
I live in WVa,. If I live and hunt and fish on my land I do not need to buy a hunting license, any resident family member is not required to purchase a license a resident tenant is not required to purchase a license to hunt on land in which they reside.Disabled vets and former POWS are not required to purchase license to hunt anywhere in WVa and are not required to pay a motor vehicle registration fee.
I can bag anything any hunter who purhcases a license can bag including extra permits for extra deer without buying a permit myself.
WVa has some of the most liberal hunting bag limit in the nation, not to mention some of the best small game hunting around and whitetail deer.

Bowhunters take their shots usually from 25 yards or less. I know I can hit a paper plate from 25 yards 95 times out of 100 shots.

Gatorboy,
Sounds me like you are pretty proficient with your bow and arrow.Do you do much bow hunting ? What type of bow do you use and how many pound draw ?
Do you do competition shooting ?
