A new sharpening system

And Pushing Tin, what were your thoughts? Know anyone using this system?

It seemed like a great product, but I have not actively looked for it since it was released. This thread was the first clue that it was finally out in the marketplace. I can see this appealing to timber fallers, tree people etc, people who cut a lot of trees and where time really is money. For the average joe like me I have no real use for it. I have 4 chains currently, I sharpen them myself for a while and then take them in for a real sharpening at $5 per chain. When I'm cutting trees at my place it's only for thinning and firewood, I'm not in a hurry so saving 10 minutes once or twice a day to sharpen my chain makes no difference to me.

If they gave me the complete system I'd be happy to run it and give my opinion. The next time I'm at the hardware store I'll go price out what a bar, chain and sharpener would cost for my Stihl Woodboss.

Thats only going to work if you run 3/8LP you know 3/8 lo pro 91 type chain, made for small saws, not even for the likes of the MS290 wood boss. Not to many timber guys running oregon 91 3/8 lo pro on the big saws out there. :confused2:

Just going to breed ignorance i think as if this is the only way you can sharpen a saw properly then should you really be using a saw ? When i did my forestry tickets years ago the first test is free hand sharpening if you can't do it you fail !

Hmm, well most people I know don't change their own oil, sharpen their own lawn mower blades etc. Lots of people don't use their saws often enough to really learn how to sharpen their own chains. Most people on this site are much more self sufficient than the general public though.

I priced the chain and just the replaceable stone at Lowe's out of curiosity sake for my little trim saw with 3/8 lo pro chain. Which by the way is the only chain for this gimmick as of right now. $31 for powersharp chain compared to my $10 other oregon VXL chain. So I could buy 3 of my regular VXL chains and have them on hand .

A bit like owning a gun but not knowing how to load it , You get handed something ready to go and when it don't work any more you hand it back ?
If i remember in the UK you could not even buy a top handle saw without doing a climbing ticket as that the purpose they were intended for! .

Well Sir , You have to take into consideration that there may be more than a few folks that don't have Your expertise . They may just be the occasional user of a chainsaw . In fact they may be in danger of letting their saw die from bad gas well before wearing out the bar ,or chain . But , by all means , keep telling us about how superior You are because You can sharpen a chain with a file
