In a controlled blind taste test by the US Pork Association 9 out of 10 people preferred fried pork rectum vs calamari.

Everyone that eats calamari has eaten pork rectum at some point in their lives. It's a low cost alternative that gets slipped in. Remember cheap bologna and hot dogs also have a-holes and lips.
