Read about your blacksnake in the wood pile. Well, I was picking up plastic bottles from our fields (we have flood irrigation and get all sorts of rubbish coming in with the water). Some time later, having carried this rubbish all the way across the farm, I saw one bottle had a black widow spider on it.
Took a photo and, stupidly, put the bottle on a pile of bricks to show my wife.
The pile of bricks became the spider's new home - so when building our small barn we had to take SERIOUS care when picking up bricks.
Apart from the black widow spiders, wolf spiders, tarantulas, rattlesnakes (cascabel), tax inspectors and coral snakes, the wild life here on our farm is pretty harmless.
